We were near Carcassonne last night and had the strange experience of clear skies - with lightning!!
It was the storms North of us that we're really going for it (almost constant for a cpl of hours)
Never experienced anything like that before.

- many many years! since I was a kid
ive seen lightning from an apparently clear sky several times. each time i noticed you could actually smell the ozone from the strikes far more than when raining or hailstones
