Things aren't always what you think they are given the title, Alan thought Kate Humble's Badger Watch was something completely different

I got flashed in my car last year going proper boy racer speed on the motorway.

I never heard anything.

I would have fought any prosecution on the basis that I was in a hurry to get out of the lousy country(y)

It is not unknown in the UK, for fixed camera`s to be set at a lower than the set (road) speed. The object of which is to catch Lorry Drivers exceeding lower limits. Before the recent rise in limit from 40 to 50 on non dual roads. There where 2 well known ones. "oop norf". A15 Caneby to Lincoln, and on the non Dual part of the A1 north of Berwick just after the Dual carriageway ends. I have been "flashed" by both when I had the R-V. One of our LGV drivers picked up a Fine and Points for the Berwick one at 1am heading for a drop at Leith.

I get flashed every bloody time I go to France. I can't see Swansea sharing details with France especially after Brexit.

For 25 years or so have driven Hymers at around 110 on the French motorways without any concern. But on the last trip got flashed in the dark going down and in daylight passing a lorry on the way back. I wonder if the new cameras can identify that I am now over 3.5 tons. A month has passed and fingers crossed I haven't heard anything yet. My German friend who is also 4.2 tons always drives 110 and reckons it's no prob. But it made me drop to lorry speed. Dunno ????

Surely the speed limit for camping-cars over 3.5 tons is 110kph on motorways and 130kph for under 3.5 t.
Trucks are limited to 90 kph.
Or have I been breaking the French law for the last few years?

Richard.

we just got flashed today, the free motorway approaching the tunnel has a 80kph limit for 3.5 tons, didn't see that start, saw the reminder just after o_O we were doing about 85 kph :( I hope it triggered as our height thought we were a lorry, will see what happens, but think the French do not have a system to check our weight (y)
We had a similar experience with the same speed limit but as our mh is 3.2t but the longer wheelbase are 3.5t we wait and see what happens. All our French residents assure us nothing will happen.

Speed cameras in France and Spain can be the tall black posts about 2 meters high which have two cameras - the lower ones are for cars and the higher for lorries (obviously being triggered by vehicles of 3metres- ish +). They are pretty common south of Bordeaux on the way to the Spanish border. We have been flashed many times where the limit is posted as 80km/hr 3500kg+ but legal in your M/H in France above that. Don't forget limit is 90km/hr for M/H in Spain.
