Whilst preparing for longish trips on Continent,by adding 2nd leisure battery and solar panels,I came to the conclusion that lpg gas was the way to go for heating and also for running the fridge when not on EHU ,and so looked at Gaslow conversions.
It occured to me that an even better solution would be a fixed tank under the vehicle-this would enable us to carry more gas,and would free up the gas locker for additional storage.
Plus we could have a BBQ point as well.

During the search for somone to carry out this work I came accross :-

a leading provider of Caravan, Motorhome, Car and Light Commercial repairs and servicing — All under one roof. We are experts in the provision of Mechanical / Electrical Repairs and Servicing, Body / Chassis Repairs and refinishing and installation of high quality Alarm Systems, Towbars and Motor Movers.

I rang and asked if they could fit a fixed lpg tank for me. The answer was that they would not be allowed to under NCC regulations. They also said that although there were lots of Motor Homes around with fixed tanks, they were not allowed to do any work on those gas systems by the NCC.
Is this correct ? If it is what would the implications be under the proposed 'safety certification' scheme for which training courses are now being held. ?

There has been a briefing given out to service centers and affiliated workshops telling them that there will need to be a certificate of compliance of electrical safety issued to caravans and motor homes at the point of service

Gonewiththewind's post concentrated on electric-Can any one confirm that NCC has 'pronounced' on Gas as well-in particular 'Fixed Gas Tanks'

I reported on this issue a few weeks ago. Yes Bureaucracy and a cash cow for the NCC.

Totally agree.

I am fitting them myself and then going to an accredited lpg specialist to check, advise and certificate.

Hi, Mike, on a slightly different tack- have you enough payload to do what you want? an extra leisure battery, solar panel and a fixed tank will weigh quite a bit, so are you sure you will have enough spare payload?
Don't want to p+++ on your chips but "they" are doing weight checks on M/Homes around the country.:whatthe:

If I believe the previous owner,I started out with 1,100 Kg in hand  I have removed the spare wheel (tyres treated with Sure Seal) and the fixed tank will,to some extent, be compensated for by the removal of the 2 x13kg Bottles which it will replace. I will be going to weigh bridge to check after it's all done. Fingers crossed eh.

My old Eurobox Hymer has about 1300KG payload according to its book.
But it is not on a lightweight Fiat base like most UK vans

We are plated at 3500kg -the previous owner informed me that he weighed in at 2400kg with full tanks, fully packed and 2 people on board. I havn't asked him for documentary proof of this. Mike.

Hi, Mike, why not take it and get it weighed yourself ,just to be sure?
