many many years! since I was a kid
having been at the business end of a few real life fires over the years, I can honestly say its not worth gambling with untested and uncertified extinguishers. they of course look good in the staged videos and if they do meet all BS standards, will be very useful indeed. in fact I can forsee the technology being adapted for use in some specialist environments. till then though its about as safe as suggesting people rely on shaking up a bottle of fizzy drink to fight a fire

fires are absolutely terrifying, its a primal thing hard wired into our brains. certainly not something to be gambled with and best left to the professionals and those with proper training using the correct tools

Latest info. from David McGregor:
Please see the message I received today from our Director which I was unaware of "please note that the product is tested to BS6165 and passed with flying colours! "
Please let your members know that our CE certificate (and all other certificates) were not self assessed - see attached.
Please note that Co2 is an asphixiant and should not be used in a confined space (ie motorhome), Dry Powder is toxic (you try breathing it in), if used in a confined space, it will make a total mess of your motorhome (to the extent where it could be written off) and is difficult to use on 12v electric fires (mainly behind the fridge). FirePal does not have any side effects, will not ruin furniture, safe for pets & humans and easy to use on 12v fires.
Lastly, we did not pay the NCC to verify the FirePal range as some have suggested!
Please let me know when the FP50 is used in the raffle.
I look forward to receiving any emails from your members.
As always, I am more than happy to help with the "Motorhome Fun" group

Hope that being to BS6165 reassures those with concerns about FirePal :) & that you will all buy tickets for the charity raffle (as mentioned before) at the first big rally that we attend next year where the Fp50 fire extinguisher that they kindly donated will be a prize :imoutahere:

Far to many contradictions and dubious scaremongering statements from the company imo.

I'll stick with my little DP (y)

Rather too quick a change of tune for me.

From "there is no British Standard for our product" to "tested to BS6165" within a few hours?

If they do hold it it's the most important thing they do hold and there's no mention of anywhere on any of the marketing material or websites?

The seem to be saying that they regard the NCC "approval" as more important than British Standards approval.

Come off it!

I'll be sticking with a real fire extinguisher as well.

BS6165 refers to the type extinguisher and not the contents.

It does include contents as well but as far as I can remember just the standard approved ones - water, CO2, powder etc. I can't for the life of me recall any provision for "secret ingredients"

I bought one at NEC, interesting thread. I have an extinguisher because I feel it is the right thing to do and I should have one. Reality is that if there were a serious fire then getting out of the vehicle is all that I would be bothered with and leave the rest to the insurers!
Will be interesting to see if this does get accepted because the guy at the show said one of the major manufacturers (can't remember which one and could have been BSing me) was going to fit them as standard to all their vehicles and caravans.

I wonder how many who are wax lyrical of the "magic extinguisher" have actually come face to face with a fire ?
I think I know the answer.

As someone who has experienced fires from a kitchen fire at home to a 132KVA electrical explosion and numerous other fires, I'll give just one piece of advice...
Don't try and and be a hero, just get the F out. An extinguisher should be used for making good an escape route - no more.

For those that may be interested in this product :imoutahere::xgrin: FirePal have been Highly Commended for Motorhome Accessory Of The Year Awards:

17th December 2016

The National Motorhome Awards 2016

Dear FirePal friends,

I am delighted to inform you that the FirePal FP50 has been awarded “Highly Commended” in the new Motorhome Accessory category of the recent National Motorhome Awards 2016.

Here at FirePal, we are stunned at the award so early since the launch of the extinguisher range, this along with the verification by the NCC, (National Caravan Council), proves the FirePal range has taken the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome market by storm.

Peter & myself want to thank all the people who have supported us and we look forward to informing the public how unique the FirePal range is. In 2016, look out for our stand at The Caravan & Motorhome show, Manchester; The Caravan, Camping and Motorhome show at the NEC, plus strategic regional shows throughout the year.

As always, working together for the benefit of our industry, please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any further information or see our website at www.firepalsales.co.uk

My view on having a fire extinguisher is ..it will probably get used for someone else's fire.

Hi Wombles
I guess you must have bought shares in the company:xThumb:
Does it have the correct approvals now?
Does it meet current standards?

It does appear that this fire extinguisher works well. It's ce approved. I'd buy it. I wonder how many people here are sure their fire extinguisher has the correct approvals. ... what they are ... and what they mean. I don't have a clue what my fire extinguishers meet. They are dry powder and made by ... err...
Can't remember

No shares or connections - we didn't even get a free FirePal :p (bought ours at the NEC Show) but as posted on here before we do have one that they donated for a Fun charity raffle at the next big rally we go to next spring :xThumb:
We like motorhome related new & useful products - chatting to inventors, entrepreneurs & manufacturers is our idea of a good time - sad perhaps but true! :blusher: The Sunncamp Swift 220 Motor awning that's now being brought to market was our idea & started after we convinced one of their sales managers that there is a gap in the market...
Also enjoying finding & getting deals so try to pass them to Funsters - best so far was the TyrePal one - again we bought our two sets :xgrin:
We aren't experts on FirePal (just like the product) & all the info. that we know has been posted on this thread for anyone that might find it of interest.

Forgot to mention that FirePal is suitable for all fires & approved by the NCC (y)
Have attached a couple of videos to show how well safe it is to use & how well it works

The mattress fire was a foam fire the other fir was a kerosene fire in my humble opinion the operative had to get to close to the fire to extinguish it the knock down wasn't that good in my opinion.
I have sept most of my working life on fire fighting teems as teem member or fire teem leaders in a off shore environment
my preference is to stick with something with a bit of range and volume.
the very low volume and range of this product offer very pore approach protection

Good spot (y) Official website is https://www.firetoolsafety.co.uk/ & don't know about the other one but not the same contact info. so have emailed David McGregor & will update here. Wouldn't recommend buying from the Amazon seller until more is known.
Have also asked if a discount code for Fun is possible.

David is usually on the Firetool stand at the NEC & Warners Motorhome Shows so may be able to get a better price buying there if no online deal is possible.

This is the reply from David McGregor:
"Yes there is another company selling what is a similar product however the product is registered with a company based in Singapore, there are no addresses to contact.
Please note this product IS NOT Verified with the National Caravan Council or did this product win the MMM awards (it was the JE50)
I am talking to Amazon direct as the seller is not replying to my emails to delete the logos (scanned from my website)
Please note that only "Firetool Safety" hold the original certificates for the MMM award and NCC verification "

He has agreed a Fun discount code motorhomefun17 (y) which reduces the JE50 (not other products) from £46.99 to £38.99 delivered via the website https://www.firetoolsafety.co.uk/products Please note you need to type the code not copy & paste then click apply.
