All you Fiat owners, do they still do have a red master key? All models? If no. What year did they stop the practise? Thanks

Hi Jim

Our 2004 does not have a red Key nor did our 2003.

Our 2002 one did though. Not sure if that helps.

until recently, the only way to get new keys was to produce the red key.....this contained the full immobiliser codes.
the black/blue keys only had the bare essensial code in the transponder.

lost keys and no red key meant a new ECU which integrates the immobiliser unit...over £1000.

there is now at least one company who can clone a key from the black or blue keys...about £45

I think the red key was last used on the 2.8 IDT engine it ended when the 2.8jtd was introduced

Jimyou might like to look into why Fiat gives out key code cards to new owners in the rest of the EU but NOT in the UK:Doh:

Ah...do you know, but are sworn to secrecy? :winky:

I thought mine was missing...phoned Danbury and was told that no key code cards are supplied by Fiat. According to "the web", Fiat was requested by the UK insurance companies to withhold the cards since they were deemed "a security risk". I did get an ISR number, and apparently this is supposed to give dealers access to a secure database of start/radio/alarm codes for a particular vehicle, and is etched onto the Doblo.

Not sure how true this is.

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
Ours is a 2006 2.8jtd . It doesn't have one. We were told by the dealer they stopped making them on our model .

But when we bought the MH last December we insisted on "the red key" after reading on MHF and the dark side , that we must be given one.
Dont take no for an answer, it will cost you a fortune to get one , get them to knock x amount off the price if they dont give you one to cover the cost etc etc.....

Felt a bit daft afterwards

Hi Geo, I just want a line in the Buyers guide about them, something like

"if the Fiat vehicle is pre 2002 then ensure you get the red master key"

Would that be good advice or not?

looking at the other replies 2001 -2002-2003 I would ask the question and ask it firmly, as stated the key replacment cost without one escalates
