hi all , a friend of mine is in the market for a smallish coachbuilt or possibly a-class and has asked me if i could get an opinion on the 1.9 diesel engine. he's seen a few vans that he likes with this engine but he's not sure about it and wonders if he would be better off with the 2.8 jtd lump ? thanks in advance and any info will be gratefully received and passed on , safe travels sean

If he is thinking of the 1.9 td to be honest it's fine on the flat but a bit of a problem on long hills, mine was pulling a 3,200kgs gross Chausson Welcome 80.
I did decat it and fitted a K&N filter it was much more sprightly and economic, not so much gearchanging.
However to be honest I agree with the old adage " there is no substitute for cubes" so if he is planning long or mountainous trips bigger is definitely better, just my opinion of course.
