Hi just got ourselves a motor home really happy with it and been on a few short trips to get the hang of it and confused about the fuel tank size, the gauge on dash says it's empty and can only get 50 litres into it which seems very small for such a large vehicle,

It's a 2008 3 litre Diesel engine, does anyone know the tank size for these my guess is I either have faulty sensor/computer or the tank has rubbish In bottom, or it only has a 50 litre tank ?

Thanks in advance
Wendy

Is it X250 cab? I assume it will be if it's a 2008 3 litre.
If so it'll be 90 litres as standard. There is an option for a 120 litre tank but not many seem to have it.

i thought there were 3 sizes 60 90 & 120. some converters specify the 60l to massage the payload figure

The info sheet I have from previous owner says it's 90 litres but handwritten so not sure accurate, guess need to take it to a garage to get it checked, planning on going on some long trips in it, don't have much confidence in the range at the mo,

Thanks for replies

Which leads me to another question what type of garage do you use, specialist caravan/motor home, or local mechanics

In our new to us motorhome I put £90 in the other day for first filling and stop at £90 as I thought that's enough..! Fuel gauge said just over half full....! :Eeek:

I'm assuming I have the 120 tank...

Just a word of warning. Many places have separate HGV pumps. I haven't tried this, but I understand that they fill at a very high rate, and chances are you could end up soaking yourself in diesel

I'm sure others can confirm or correct me

ps Ours is 90l on Ducato 2.3 2016 model

I have used the HGV pump at the Le Clerc in Neufchatel-en-Bray - it is the only one easily accessible for the MH, and not had any problems with it, the filling is faster than standard but not enough to cause a problem.

Ours 2.3 Ducato 130MJ is 90 litres and the payload smallprint says it's based in the tank being 90% full - crafty sods.

Depends what is wrong with it or what you want doing. If it is mechanical (Engine/gearbox etc) then a Fiat Pro garage. If it is habitation area then a specialist motorhome dealer or mechanic.
Not necessary to use a Fiat franchise garage, any garage that deals with commercial vehicles/vans can do it so long as any work is done correctly and uses the correct type/quality of parts (if it's still under warranty of course).

I'm guessing that you have a Fiat or Peugeot based motorhome which are sometimes fitted with a smaller or larger fuel tank than the standard 90 litre.
To confirm the fuel tank size just call in at your nearest main dealer and take along the V5 registration document and the dealer should be able to tell you what capacity fuel tank was fitted when it left the factory.

Since 2015.......
Ours is the 90litre, but we've had it down to showing 40 miles left on the computer display.
Still only got 80 litres in it when filled up..... so it must have a bit in reserve although I don't want to put it to the test. ;)

the 120L fuel tank option was dropped from the options packs of the 2017 Globecar vans with the launch of the Euro6 motors - we were meant to have a 120L tank as part of an options pack but got a 90l tank - it is due to the need for a 20L adblue tank in the Citroen and Renault variants of the chassis that need the adblue to meet the Euro6 emissions tests.

I think it is still available as an add on to the Fiat Ducato chassis, but it is a separate option now - and it isn't available on the Citroen / Renault variants for the reason stated above.

We've used the odd HGV pump to fill up our Burstner, nothing bad happened.

It would depend very much on the particular configuration of the connecting pipe from the filler hole to the tank, many have convoluted pipework that will not take the increased flow of HGV pumps regardless of filler size. Not very pleasant getting a blowback of that nice smelly diesel fuel.
