The M/H is coming up for an oil and filter change, it is a X250 130 bhp 2.3, same as everybody else's, what oil do most people use, fully synthetic or semi, semi costs a lot less that fully synthetic, but needs changing more often, ??

Fully synthetic always. You can normally find decent stuff for under £30, so why would you compromise?

Fully synthetic in those - the older boxers 2.5/2.8 (2000 era) you can use more basic oil, but yours MUST be synthetic - they are quite fussy with that too!

How often would it be necessary to change the synthetic oil bearing in mind the low mileage involved.?

If you are using in the summer, and only occasionally in the winter, you won't do any harm by doing yearly if you don't get 5k miles in the season.

Oil is the life-blood of the engine - so I always over service. It means you are not the one sat by the roadside, or repairing engines!:thumb:

Depends on the oil and the engine. Follow the engine manufacturer's recommendation. Personally, I wouldn't go beyond 2 years with low mileage, even if the manufacturer allowed it. That assumes fully synthetic.

Semi-synthetic I would go no longer than a year. Mineral, no longer than 1 day, allowing enough time to travel to somewhere that sells non-filth.

check your handbook for the correct grade and spec....the wrong one won't do your engine any favours.

If your engine has a DPF (diesel particulate filter) fitted it will need low ash oil as regular oil may clog the filter, and fully synthetic isn't always the correct oil for modern engines.

I would be looking at Mobil 1 esp 5w30 or similar spec

Long gone are the days of "any oil will do"

Max change interval for this oil is 25000 miles.
