Hi,

we are going to look at a MH that has the 3.0 litre engine, the van is 2010 registered,

I've read in the past about Ducato's having a judder when reversing up steep gradiants, does this apply to both engine sizes?, and also is there anything to be wary/ aware of on the 3.0 litre?

Our MH is a 2010 'van based have a 3.0 Fiat base. Have done just over 6000 miles in it in the past 12 months - it's not missed a beat.
Have reversed it up inclines - no sign of any judder.
Have taken it up sever very steep hills, including 20% in Peek District and in Scotland - no issues at all, just takes it in it's stride.
Initially I was going to get it remapped, but after driving it for a year, have decided it doesn't need it.

Not sure if it suffers the same leaky fuel filter as the 2.3l - someone might be able to advise.

I have no judder (2008 3.0 comfortmatic) If the van is plated at 3500 2.3 is hugely adequate. Mine is 4250kg and as luck would have it the first owner opted for auto at great expense. I can't imagine driving anything else as it is such a pleasure.

I believe the 3.0l is a chain cam engine, not to be sniffed at.

Awesome engine the 3.0 with huge amount of torque. A real joy to drive,,Makes my old 2.5 TDI seem prehistoric.

many many years! since I was a kid
ive changed my filter regularly and not had problems i take it out and remove top by wedging the body loosely in a vice a smear of silicon grease on the threads helps
there is a special tool and cradle available to make filter changes easy. bought mine for under £20

forgot to say, the 3.0l is great and very capable, but the clutch is stupid expensive to replace and can be a very weak link. had one literally shatter into pieces and the garage had seen several do the same

We have a 2010 Ducato (purchased October, but believe chassis built February that year) 2.3l manual gearbox and plated at 3,500kg - no problems with clutch reversing up very steep slopes. Have covered 25k miles now, and all good so far.

Would like a comfortmatic gearbox though.

Ours also a 3.0 l manual 2007 - great engine and no probs at all since we have had it - apart from after a service when the mechanic put the oil filter back on cross threaded! Lovely to drive - we are so pleased with it!

Done 12000 miles since new in 2013 in our 3L Auto. No problems at all, our last trip to Croatia and back returned 26.9 MPG. Admittedly that was on the onboard trip meter. Wouldn't go back to manual.

The ONLY way to find out if there is a problem is to give it a very good test drive, make sure you reverse up an incline for some distance if possible, also you should be able to check with Fiat if it has had any 'fixes' done. If there is any sign of judder walk away ... it isn't worth the hassle!!!

wow !

thank you for your reply's, seems we should be onto a winner with the 3.0l engine then,

I like the extra torque as we have just sold our 5cyl 2.5TDI transporter and that was also a great torquey engine
