I have experienced the comfortmatic in two vans now both Euro 5. The 1st was 2.3L 150hp on a 4250 tonne van and the second in a 3.0L 180hp (I think) 4250 tonne van and there is one heck of a difference between the two. There is probably 30% less gear changes with the 3.0L with very similar economy. So given a choice then it would be the 3.0L everytime.

I have the 150, 2.3lt, love it, OK the slow 1st to 2nd change when you put your foot down hard is a pain, now if pulling out onto a roundabout I slip it into manual. Generally it's a great gearbox wouldn't have a manual van again. I've not noticed any excessive gear changing my van is 3500kg, maybe they use a lower final drive on a heavier chassis with the 2.3.
