Hi there folks, can any one help, My son has a 2003 CI Carioca 2000jtd, and the Fiat immobiliser has stopped working so the engine turns over but it will not fire up. Can anything be done with it, if not what is the alternative.

Thanks,
John.

hi john,

have you tried a different key, in particular, the red key ?????
it may just be the key thats 'lost' the rolling code.

the immobiliser works in conjuction with the engine management sytem, ECU, and it will almost certainly involve a main dealer to sort it.

i have a feeling they'll say a new ECU and Immobiliser will be needed.....£1000+:Eeek:

it may not be the immobiliser causing the problem though, itcould be a fuel problem..... failed fuel pump etc.

worth having the whole thing checked before spending stupid money.

dont know where the van is but these people can remove the immobiliser completely. Link Removed

Thanks,
John.

Then there is a key symbol on the display ?

Could be the transponder inside the key broken - try another key.

red key

thanks for that.....very useful link for future reference...:thumb:
If its a genuine 2003 (some old models around) MK 3 with the newer headlights ]
they don't have a red key anymore, but a keydcode card (credit card size).

As suggested try another key.

Anyway you/he could try disconnecting the battery to let everything reset.

Good luck, The fiat forums are full of information as usual some of it conflicting!!

Always a wierd one this Jon,
I had the same problem on my van at the peterborough show, ALl the fun weekend mechanics came over to see why the van would not start and shook there heads.

I put another key in and bingo she started first click.

I have had that issue once more, but not since touch wood. The key is (excuse the pun) if you have not tried is to place key in ignition and continually turn on and off the ignition (without turning engine over) and for some reason the little light that shows the imoberliser symbol will disappear.
This is what happened with mine. maybe worth a try if he has not done so.. :thumb:

I think i read somewhere that you can move the sensor on the ignition switch nearer the key this sometimes cures it?
