Since before Motorhomefun
Hymers/Tabberts/Pilote on non diesel 2.5 diesel engine.

Been told they are gutless and not to good on fuel.

1990 era vans

Any comments please?

Many years since I drove one, but from what I remember they lacked a bit of puff on hills. Apart from the obvious needing to change down on hills if you are not in too much of a hurry fine.

we had a Talbot 2.5 compass drifter, it was not as gutted less as I had been lead to believe, it towed my goldwing with no problem, any hill did mean a change down bike or no bike on the back.

Had an Elddis Autostratus years ago with the 2.5 non turbo Fiat.
Hard work wasnt the word...on hills down right dangerous.
Never got more than 24 MPG out of it when loaded,having said that its probably still chuging around somewere. An unstressed engine should last longer than a stressed one with turbo if the old Mercs are anything to go by.

A non diesel Deisel engine will go nowhere no matter how much fuel you don't put in. Will do zero to zero in all the time in the world:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I Had an eldiss voyager on a 1993 non turdo 2.5 ducato it was a nightmare. Any slight gradient meant changing down and almost crawling along, and god help me if I was overtaking a a lorry on the motorway I would be blown back by the bow wave which I often could not break so had to drop back until a down hill section.

It was the one and only Non turbo I ever bought.

I had a Mercedes MB100 2.3Lr diesel with a FRANKIA coach built
it was not turbo
it would build up its speed and plod along at 60MPH (+ if down hill with the wind behind) always lacked power up hills returned 30+MPG
had every thing one needed for a holiday
I ONLY CHANGED to have a fixed bed due to a spinal injury
my RV IS 25 FOOT LONG LPG conversion returns 10MPG @£0.70/Ltr
so it is not too hard on the pocket but has loads more in side it than any Euro motorhome

We have a 1990 2.5 non turbo diesel Talbot Express Autoquest 420.We've been all over Europe with it,.Its never been welded and it never misses a beat.
Yes its gutless but it comfortably does 50 mph most of the time.It will do 70 if you have patience and it does between 22 and 25 mpg.

That's a big jump from the last post😂------- ( 2012) and brings back some old members!!!!!
We have a 1991 fiat non turbo ( but it HAS got power steering!!!)
We have had it since November----- but can't tell you how gutless it is---- we've not been allowed out to play with it😥😥------- we are anticipating an enlightening run sometime this year😂😂

The 2,5 is a racing car compared to the 1,9 non turbo, which mine was. & yes even in that you could be in 4th at 20mph & also go round the roundabouts.

The Renault at that time did seem to have more power, perhaps if the chassis had been more amenable to being developed for a motorhome body, Fiat would have not become the market leader.
