Hi,

Just averaged 26 mpg in our new Chausson 718 on the Fiat chassis with the 150 Multijet engine. Only did around 120 miles on mainly A roads and motorway. I had expected nearer to 30 based on what I've read so far. Am I being a bit optimistic? Thanks

10,000 miles and we average 25.4 MPG - to be honest, I would not expect anything more. You might get 30 but would need to keep the top speed down a lot; we cruise at 60mph where legally permitted

Yep we get around the same with ours, same sort of speed as well.

Thanks for the replies. To be honest I did think 30mpg was optimistic - we just about got that from our previous T5.

On our first 340 mile round trip motorway an d A road , fill up to fill up our 150 auto , trip showed 28mpg and actual based on fuel fill was 27mpg. I drive at about 55 to 60 mph.

It will improve once you have done 10 - 15000 miles, fiat consider 15000 to be run in. Type of gearbox won't make much odds as the auto is a robotised manual if anything the auto is slightly better.
We average 26-27 have had 30 but depends on the terrain.
Doesn't really matter when you have spent over 50k on a new van what does a few quid extra in fuel matter.

Thanks - you're absolutely right about the cost vs the purchase. It was more out of curiosity than concern. Only done 300 miles so far so a way to go before it gets more fuel efficient!

Exactly our philosophy - the layout is good, the van comfortable so nothing else really mattered. We monitor the consumption out of habit more than anything else but would not let the MPG dictate anything to us. Life is too short

@Jack Slipper - it should improve a bit when run in but as you say........just enjoy the van (y)

We have a 150 manual in our PVC which we've had since last May, we've got around 6000 miles on now and we're averaging around 26 mpg, it could be better but hubby does like speed and enjoys using the fast pedal! :D

Our previous PVC was on the 130 manual and we got up to 29 mpg on average over the 3 years we had him, I'm sure we could have got over 30 but not with hubby's heavy right foot!

We do a lot of mountain driving when on holiday as we love the scenery so that in itself means we'll have a lower mpg than most.

I keep a record of our fills and mileage which is useful and in our current PVC the computer readout is actually very accurate when compared to my figures. The best mpg we've ever had was 99.9 (the computer readout doesn't go above that) ... but that was on the way down one of the mountain passes without using the throttle for approx 6 miles!

The first few hundred miles in our new 2.3 130 Ducato we were getting about 26mpg. Now done about 3000 miles and getting 30-32mpg. So mpg does get better with mileage. Give it a few more thousand miles.

Only another 14700 miles to go.:)

On mine since about 12000 miles the Comformatic box is working even better, Fait do say the software is set up for an engine that is run in which is 15000m.

Our euro 5 150 is about 2mpg better than our previous euro 4 130 (both 2.3 Fiat manuals) First one was a coach built and current one an A class. We average 29-31mpg.
Whilst I don't know if the real time computer mpg display is accurate, it does teach you how light a foot you need to achieve good mpg. Cruising along a flat road at 55ish it can read 45mpg, then hit an incline and it go to 18mpg.

Last year in our 718 we averaged between 28 and 29 on longer runs, but that was with a 155 Ford engine, so not really helpful sorry. It did take a bit of running in before we got to those figures though, the first few hundred miles I only got about 20, but it then got slowly better all the time.

I'm very disappointed these days if I get less than 30MPG. Van has now done 20K and often returns 32-34 MPG.
Hills and speed are the major factors, always change gear at 2000RPM and cruise as near to that as possible.
2000 rpm is maximum torque and maximum MPG.

Yes I think the mileage showing on the 150 bhp engine of 42-44 mpg is a little optimistic I guess I will find out when our new MH arrives in September, hopefully

I tend to sit at the speed limits especially on the motorway so average 70 mph most of the time. I use BP Ultimate or Shell Nitro as the additives help maintain the fuel pump and injector spray pattern. Below is a screen shot from a fuelly app I use on the iphone and the best mpg I got was 42.38 mpg when averaging 40 mph the whole time (Deliberately stayed away from motorways and dual carriageways when possible) just to see the difference in economy.

Very interesting stats there Lorryman, did you add the values manually or is it some sort of map/gps app you are using?

Are you sure your entries in the app are correct? I think there must be something wrong as there's no way on earth you could have got 42 mpg out of an A-class, never mind a slim-line panel van conversion like we have, unless you are going downhill most of the time!

Are you able to re-check your figures?

Just returned from a trip round Yorkshire on our second trip out in our new fiat 130 Ducati base, manual box.
Covered all sorts of terrain, including steady motorway work, a and B roads, and the 1 in 4 hills etc, so a good cross section. Filled and brimmed the tank each time and got 31-5 mpg. Was well chuffed with that.
As you say, the fuel cost is not really the issue, but done it out of interest.

@Minxy Girl, I too was surprised as I previously filled right to the brim with the intention of getting as far as possible on one tank as an experiment. After I fill up I enter the details into the app, the litres and price per litre. The app gives you the total which I check against the till receipt, see Edit Fuel in the above picture.
