Visited Paris in December 2013.

Good Christmas Market along the Champs Ellysee and a second largish one at La Defense.

The camp site in the Bois de Boulogne is ideal for the trip.

Bielefeld has a really good one as do most cities. I can vouch for it after spending 15 years there once upon time. The tram system there is awesome too so no worries about parking.

Had one for 5 years many moons ago. Now starting again.
Went to Amiens' one last year. It was okayish but too many stalls that were cheap tat sold all year round but not cheaply.
But while it was on they had the cathedral illuminations on in the evening - that bit was stunning.

Been to a few but bumped into one by chance in Alsace a couple of years ago that I would rate the best for atmosphere. Not the biggest, but a really great local feel to it. Ribeauville, it's only held for a few weekends on the lead up to Christmas. A medieval theme that everyone participates in, the municipal campsite (closed for the winter is opened up as a free aire).

Highly recommended

Went to Aachen one year, just across border into Germany from Brussels. Seem to remember it equal to several we've seen in Germany and at the time you could also stay overnight in the huge car/coach park. From there its only an hour or so to Cologne, which in our opinion has the best showing (7 different markets when we were there), although you have to get in quick to get on the stellplatze - we actually booked a place beforehand, don't know if you still can.

Valkenburg , can anyone suggest a site or aire that has EHU (preferably 10amps or more would be a bonus) nearby or where we can catch a bus into town

Always Berlin for me, they have about 15 markets in various parts of the city. Some traditional and family orientated some more modern. For adults, the market round the Gedachtniskirche, top of the Kurfustendam, is brilliant on a Friday evening - everyone goes there straight from work. Loads of stalls selling gluwein and beer, many with small beer cellars behind them, superb atmosphere. Plus loads and loads of traditional stalls. Good stellplatz near to transport system so easy to get round all the markets. OK I am biased as we lived in Berlin in the 70s but still love the place at Christmas.

Cologne went 2013. We went to Bruge then to Aachen stayed on the Aire in Bruge, Munisiple in Aachen where we were told to go to Cologne which was the best. We stayed on the Aire or what every they call them a nice stroll down the Danube from the centre of Cologne. I had a Warwick Duo at the time and we had no problems keeping warm.

Valkenburg, Xmas market was very good and the atmosphere around town in the evening was excellent. Day trip to Monschau well worth it, old village along the river in a valley. Monschau also has a Xmas market.

Bernkastel Kues was our favourite last year. Nice stellplatz by the Mosel and pretty chocolate box town with vibrant market. Trier isn't far away and the stellplatz there was also great with a free bus to town for the Market. Not as pretty but bigger.

Cologne takes some beating. All 6 or 7 markets have their own flavour and if you have time to spare, a short tram ride to Bonn and there's another one there.

The problem with German Christmas markets is that you rarely get to see the stalls at the far side - stop at the first gluhwein stall, sip sip, walk to the next gluhwein stall, sip sip, totter to the next gluhwein stall, sip slurp, stagger to the next gluhwein stall, slurp slurp, fall off the stool.
But you will sleep well that night (take plenty of Nurofen with you).

Yes we're doing the same. When to Bristol last year but with threatened closure of Baltic Wharf booked Marina instead 10-13 Dec. I think the Bath market finishes earlier in December than most.
