I just emailed mine (louth) and got this reply...

"The NFU do not offer breakdown cover for the motorhome insurance. Many of our customers use the Camping & Caravan Club or Britannia Breakdown for cover.

Kind regards
Holly "

Did you ask for Continental breakdown cover, which is what I've been talking about all along? It may well be that the NFU doesn't provide it in the UK but it certainly does for Europe. My branch is Leyburn in North Yorkshire.

I repeat - I've taken out Continental breakdown cover with the NFU for over three years and the cost has always been around £25 -28 depending on the length of the trip.

UK breakdown cover is included in the motor insurance policy at no extra cost. European cover is avaliable for an extra charge. I done this by phone to my local agent and was sent paperwork by post.

Ive spoken to louth and leyburn offices and its all to do with yer length !!
Ive got a big un ya see. different under writers etc.
Here are the bones of thier responses -

LOUTH-

Having checked our own policy, it will be dependant on the size of the motorhome, as over a certain size continental breakdown cover cannot be added.

LEYBURN -

According to my understanding the information that NFU Mutual do not offer a road rescue service following breakdown of motor homes is consistent
regardless of the branch that underwrites the policy.

I attach a link to the NFU Mutual website and if you select product motor insurance and then motor home insurance, you'll find some
brief information which is subject to the standard policy terms and conditions but it does clarify that in the event of an accidenta road rescue service is available.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to access the Motorhomefun website as I am not a member so I cannot see personally the blogs that motor home
owners have written. Perhaps the information from the NFU Mutual website has been misinterpreted? My only advice to members is - like you - if any
motor home owners insured with the NFU Mutual are in any doubt regarding their policy cover, to contact their local agent.

THEY DID BOTH SAY ON THE PHONE THAT MEMBERS SHOULD NOT GET CONFUSED BETWEEN BREAKDOWN COVER AND ACCIDENT RECOVERY TOO.

Hi. Does anyone know of a company offering European breakdown cover for our van:

23 years old
3782cc
23' long
6.5 ton
Privately converted.

Been on internet & phone for a week and still can't find ONE which will cover ALL the spec! She's either too old, over 3000cc, over 3.5t or they won't accept non factory built!

Any (reasonably polite) suggestions would be MOST WELCOME & APPRECIATED!!!

(Tried all the previously mentioned organisations, joined CC to be able to use Mayday for UK cover but no luck for EU ...:shout:

PS.: She's been to India,Africa & all points between over the last few years with no problem at all (with previous guardian) - knowing my luck she'll expire as I disembark
ADAC 79euros per year, for you and your family members, anywhere in Europe and beyond. No age of vehicle limit, any vehicle which you or you family are in,up to 7500kgs.365 days per year,no limit on time of stay.Ask for English speaker and give name and address, they will send paperwork through within a week, inc details of credit, debit card payment slip.I had a trial run with them the other week with a puncture and they sent the AA out to fix it.Can recomend them personaly as have used them, and they do what they say they do.Ask for the ADAC plus membership and you get worldwide medical insurance for the price of 79 Euros.

Hi,

That's a similar amount to most of the others, don't confuse the €200 as being the total amount that would be used to repatriate you back to the UK,

but remember ADAC only cover the first £200 of any recovery, which isnt a lot.

You can only say as you find i.e. experience. I think, fortunately, few have had to call on the various options and covers available, and judging by the posts when the service has been called upon...it’s at best inadequate.

Inevitably, given the high number of Motorhome/Caravans we have had on our tours, we have had clients need [all be it rare] specialist assistance i.e. repatriation.

By far the best and most efficient service provider we have experience of has been ADAC. Seamless and faultless service the one time we needed it in Morocco and even better, if that is possible, in mainland Europe.
