Never leave a campsite with your clothes line tied to a lamp post.
We are currently on the La Buganvilla camp site and plan to move further down the coast to Manilva (just past Estepona) for a bit of a change of scenery in a couple of days time. There is a camp site there called Bella Vista that is supposed to be 5 star so we phoned to see if they could fit us in for a few days so we could pamper ourselves a bit. They replied that they were full and that they could not tell us when they might have a space......and this is from a camp site that charges 29 Euro's a night!!!! I wonder how many Funsters would be prepared to pay this much to camp, however the proof of the pudding has resulted in the place being fully booked so perhaps people are prepared to pay more for a bit of luxury. We would love to hear from any of you who have stayed there or, assuming we are unable to get in, know of any good wild camp spots nearby.

We did a fun rally there back in 2014, 36 vans but we paid €14 :) great site, location but I would not want to pay top money. I will post a couple of stop over recommendations when I get on my Pc later today.

When the Funsters rallied there we saw a few vans wilding in Castilla de la Duquesa, mostly French and Dutch, guessing on their way to Morocco. There were also some spots further along the A7 towards Gib. The Duquesa spot was in the old town right by the sea wall, bars and shop within a few yards.

Here is one free stopover, a little inland. We went to check it out between coming off the ferry and going to Bellavista. Small village and from memory there looked to be some good bike riding / walks. Did not stay overnight.

As Quickweh states, out of season a few vans have been seen here.. Spend some cash in the local bars and i am sure you wont get any hassle..

We had a walk around the site a couple of years ago and weren't impressed; over-priced, no or little shade and mediocre views. It was however, pretty full so appeals to enough users and the pitches were large and seemed able to cope with the large MHs that we saw there.

Over the last 2 years I spent a couple of weeks over Christmas in Duquesa - not in a Motorhome unfortunately. I walked almost every day along the walk by the beach and looked longingly at the Bella Vista campsite - looked great from the walk anyway - but I can't comment on the facilities. As @quickweh says they were always a few motorhomes parked in the Castillo area - again just off the beach and right beside a few bars and restaurants. I can't believe the pictures @tonka has of the Aire in La Linea, it looks great. My experience of driving through there was that the town was a bit of a dump.
If you get a chance try Estepona on Sunday for the market. There's loads of Motorhome parking by the port and while the market has all the usual type of 'market' stalls, there is a great atmosphere in the port area with loads of restaurants and bars etc. A nice way to spend an hour or so for a bit of lunch.

I have been caravanning for 32 years but in 2014 I have"gone over to the dark side"

You do get what you pay for. Wilding in Castillo is not advisable, you will be moved on

I think if you arrived without a booking you will be accommodated and they do deals if you stay a while.

The Aire in Casares is fine but not really near any real facilities,

Bella Vista really does take some beating because of its proximity to Castillo,Duquesa,Sabinillas and all the facilities you would ever need and all within walking distance.
