This thread is making me paranoid, I'm going to stop reading now before someone suggests I carry spare EGR valves or a spare windscreen. :D2

I guess you only really need a spare windscreen if you are in an A class!

Oh for Gods sake! Where is the thrill of going overseas if you are overloaded with "what if" and "just in case!"

Wing it!

A spare water pump? Never ever needed to replace one of those in all the years we've been motorhoming ... since 1996!

Essentials really would be bulbs, fuses, oil, wheel (ideally!), batteries for the remote, plus other stuff such as a pack of various sized small screws, glue, cable ties, string (don't ask how long!) and of course gaffer tape ... you can NEVER have too much gaffer tape!

We carry a spare water pump, not a lot of money , not a lot of weight, so many different sorts , where do you get one in the middle of France when you havnt had a shower for three days.:(
We also have all the other things @Minxy Girl says plus a couple of screwdrivers, mole grips and a moveable spanner, but above that you don't need as you would call out your breakdown.
Water pump as in fresh water pump?
We've had ours changed twice in 4 years in France (St. Dizier)

oil, air, diesel, filters, diesel piping, spare set injectors. track rod ends, cv joints, cv rubber boot kits, wipers, bulbs, clutch cable, bottlejack, trolley jack, tools 3 socket sets, . Forgot loads of stuff but it all weighs in excess of 150kgs, lol
For medicine I have 2 plastic 5 litre tubs one for all sorts of stuff I use, ibuprufino, anti-biotics etc; & another for anything the dog might need.
I have ADac but like all insurance I regard its use as the absolute last resort.
We'd need a trailer to carry all that.

All very interesting thanks.

How common is it to carry a spare toilet cassette (more from an extending times between emptying rather than a breakdown!)
Apparently a fair few do but we've never had the need to. As @Minxy Girl says, once full you need to think where you're putting it. I certainly wouldn't consider because of the space.

Being a women with no electrical/mechanical skills I have a different approach. I carry a towing strap, jump leads, gaffer tape and a load of fuses. The first 2 are in the hope that someone will be around to offer assistance, and the latter 2 because I actually know what to do with them!!!

Pants, you should never travel without a spare pair!
Passport, I never leave the UK without taking my spare passport, saves a lot of panic and bother if you loose one of them.

I'm a newbie
I have a Hymer, so.........:whistle2:

:reel:
Tempting fate, wizzer59!
Cable ties!
this may need some examples, many of which I have used in the past:
Stopping loose bits on bike racks flapping
Stopping bike wheels turning
Replacing broken loops on awning
Replacing zipper pulls on awnings
"Locking" awning door flaps together ( Stanley knife needed as "key")
Tying loose tools together to stop them rattling
Fixing water hoses on engine cooling system
Making Christmas decorations - Daisy chains ( coloured once are best for this!)
Fixing broken window catches
Fixing broken dog leads
Fixing broken door catches
Temporary watch strap
Temporary shoe lace
Holding down things that rattle
Tying together the hands of the bad guy until the Police arrive
Tidying cables around the TV

Anyone else find them useful for unusual things?

A 5 litre bottle of fresh water, 1 litre UHT milk, tea bags, some canned food - so I can just stay where I am until I can figure out how to get the 'problem' sorted...............

Spares I've actually used in the last 11 years (as opposed to the many more things I've carried 'just in case'):

Bulbs
Fuses
Wing mirror glass
Mixer tap cartridge
Top marker light fittings
Chimney pipe
Jubilee clips for engine hoses
Sealant
Bog cartridge seal

Most essential tool beyond the usual suspects:

Digital Multimeter
