The fridge has been stood unused for almost a year and wont get cold on gas/12v or 240v so had searched the net and found the trick was to invert the fridge for a while and then plug back in and it should work, as per Link Removed

Have seen quite a few people saying this SO got it out of the van and wired it to a mains plug, inverted it for a couple of hours and rolled it around, heard it glugging so plenty of chemicals in it, no signs of any leakage, plugged it in and after an hour its not even cold but the pipes at the back are hot.

Any idea how long it takes for a fridge on 240v to cool? and if that doesn't work any suggestions?

It can take a couple of hours to cool. Try leaving on for 3 hours, chuck a thermometer in it as look at what temp it cools to. It may be that it needs regassing, or just left on for a while!
