Electric in France (1 Viewer)

Going French for the first time in September - what power adaptors for hook-up do I need to take to be on the safe side? I am sure E-bay can oblige with the supply!

Do they have electricity in France? I thought they were still using coal & gas

Most French sites have the standard blue plug. A few will have the older white 2 pin plug. Adaptors are available from ebay

I was pretty surprised to see when on aires an campsites recently in france that more sites had english 3 pin connections instead of the euro 2 pin

At the risk of opening up a can worms unless you have a MH with modern electrics (twin pole etc) you need to consider reverse polarity. For this you need a reverse polarity detector gizmo and a lead made up to resolve the problem. You probably won't die if you don't but best to be on the safe side.

It's a funny thing but most of the French vans have the old type lead, so they have to use an adaptor in their own country. Mind you, a lot don't have a proper hookup lead and are using drum extension cables as per B&Q.

Two minutes work to swap wires with a screwdriver if your detector shows reverse polarity.

unless you are tampering with an appliance when its still on hookup theres no need to check or cure reverse polarity.

lights still light, fans/motors still turn the correct way....and more important......RCD's and breakers still work as they should.

if you are fiddling inside anything electrical while still plugged into hookup you deserve a shock.

Also if the plug is of the two pin variety if you check the polarity and it is reverse, just go to the plug and turn it the other way round, ie. cable exiting either up or down! Jobs a good un....

Never had a habitation check
