ECU update download (1 Viewer)

I have a 2009 Citroen Relay van conversion which has just had the exhaust gas recirculation valve replaced. The garage which did it has recommended I have an update to the ECU software, which has to be done at the main Citroen dealer. Is this common? Has anyone else had it done on their Relay/Ducato/Boxer?? Was it worth £108 which is what I will have to pay?

Not on my current van, but on a previous van this was done by the dealer whilst fixing a problem (the warning light) under warranty. No cost to me. Whether its necessary on a 4 year old van I don't know but I would ask:

1. Does the repairer think the update is necessary because of the work he did? If this is the case maybe he should have mentioned it first. Or is he saying the fault you had was someway related to the lack of an update? Seems unlikely.

2. If not, is the update necessary simply because there now is a new update? If so when did it come out and was it whilst the van was under warranty? In which case I would have a difficult conversation with the Citroen dealer about why it was not done before.

If neither of these I wouldn't bother assuming the van has been OK for 4 years.

EGR valves are notorious for carbonning up. It could be that the engine re-map which you have been told about may be to prevent you having to have the EGR valve replaced again.

i would put the £108 towards getting the ecu remapped by a specialist for better power and mpg. their map will include the latest ecu settings for everything including egr etc
