I've had S1 GRW since 1998, had it on 3 different cars and 5 motorbikes. Just spent an hour at our local DVLA today getting it put on the Motorhome and 12 months road tax.

DVLA these days exclude many of the 'questionable' vehicle registrations that would otherwise be available. But I'm sure there must be some that have slipped through the net. One I will always remember which was featured some years ago on Esther Rantzen's TV programme "That's Life" was on a modest Cortina - OBO 110X - suitably spaced. :winky:
I'm sure there must be others? (Genuine ones only please!)

I'm a tosser / snob as well then.
Been called quite a few things in my life but never a snob:ROFLMAO:
Bought *** 733 when I was 33 for £80 was offered £3750 from a national no plate retailer 6 months ago so a good investment as well as a bit of fun.
We would definately get one for the van if we found the right one, not a statement just a bit of fun:thumb:

I'm a newbie in my second year.
TO 55 ER? There is a letter missing here..... As for W4 NKR Have you actually seen that plate, I would be surprised if its on the road.:Eeek:

I like the Idea of a not being able to tell the age of your MH or Car, helps stop malicious damage.... Mind you It can only work to an extent, some cars / MH's were not around when some plates were first issued....

True, my car reg dates from 1986 and my vehicle was first made in 2004 so could not be more than 9 years old if I had the first ones made. All it indicates though is that it could be anything from then onwards and so would not be seen as a new vehicle (which it isn't now anyway)

Well I have read the post and smiled........I have come to the conclusion that I must be the biggest snob going :ROFLMAO:

RV, W80 TOY (weighty toy)

C5 Corvette, C5 VET

Company trucks

D8TA 0 (data academy)
D8TA E (data academy)
D8TA V (data academy)

Numbers for sale on retention
X81 GGS (mr Biggs just for you)
MR52 GUN (Mrs Zoe gun Mr Gun or a Shooting Man)

Wanted D8TA ? numbers

I do find that the company Vehicles get noticed and the signwriting read much more since we had the plates, I have always had private plate for the company and my self........funny though don't have one on my car at the present just the plain old 52 plate it came with :thumb: I have had some fantastic numbers in the past on cars I bought a few that stick in my mind are FAY 1, FKU 22, and 377 KY there have been hundreds more.

Does a 'personal' plate attract more or less attention when you do or don't want it?

My question above got lost in all the discussions about snobbery................

Has anyone else registered a new MH with an older plate? I am not talking about a private registration number, just simply one that is older.

I just can't help but think that many undesirables out there will target new vehicles before ones that they think are older.

In answer to that question, I don't think putting an old number plate on a new vehicle would make the vehicle look older any-more than putting a new number on an old vehicle would make it look like a new one. I sometimes wish it would though .

On & off, since 1966 - fulltime since 2005
Always remember Jimmy Tarbuck's old number: COM1C ...

and PEN15, last seen on a Smart in Dunstable - previously seen advertised for £35k ...

Had VLP69 ... on grandfather's 1949 Ford Prefect.
616LDE on a 1962 LandRover - paid £500 for the LR, later sold the number for £600 (and the LR for same)
J54XEP on the MH - worth nothing but easy to remember...
CQ115HR on the V40 ... c'est cul ... according to google-translate: 'this is ass'

DRS 11 on Rover P5. Sold for scrap.
DR 30 on Morris Minor convertible. Part exchanged for MK 2 Zodiac.
KOT 1 on Ford Mustang sold to my mate who eventually put it on his Rolls.

He's been stopped for having the spacing wrong (R 5END) so he has had to alter it back to normal.

There is also one near me with MEP 1 P, also got pulled for wrong spacing (ME P1P).
Guess what his name is :ROFLMAO:

If you change the spacing or otherwise make it read something different (like strategically placed screws) you can be fined up to £1000 and have the registration withdrawn.

A few years ago in the DVLA's own auction they showed MR51 NGH as 'MR SINGH' - they will do what they have to to get your money - then fine you for 'misusing' the reg - heads they win, tails they win again
