The one eye is an odd one. On the licence renewal it asks if you have a problem that affects both eyes ?

On and off for many years.
They are not a pain in the rear.

They are when you have applied to get your licence back, have done everything they have asked for - and more - and your application is still in the pile awaiting attention 4 months later. So the 6 month revocation is now 10 months and I am told it could be another year or more before they get round to even looking at the application. Even worse is that the condition I have is not on the notify list but I thought I should let them know "just in case". By the time the revocation letter actually got to me it was too late for me to appeal (Scotland).

My MSP is on the case at the moment and is getting fobbed off as well. He is as sick as a parrot with the answers he is getting.

I see my specialist again next week - I am only having the appointments because of the DVLA, the specialist said I would normally have been discharged 6 months ago but she needs to keep me on the books so she can fill in the forms the DVLA send her and approve my bus pass extension (bus pass due to having driving licence medically revoked) - so the delays within the DVLA are costing the NHS and the local council and the Scottish Parliament money!!!!

Even more frustrating for me is that someone else who actually needs the appointment at the hospital is missing out because the DVLA have not got round to reading the application but just send out forms asking if all the information they already have is still correct.

They are there to try to prevent horrendous road traffic collisions that usually end with death/s and injury. Yes I agree, it is the end user who has been given the responsibility. which is right and proper. If it happens, the person will regret not being truthful for good. I don't hold with people who complain about the system.

Not complaining about the system if it actually worked as it is supposed to. It is impossible to talk to anyone who can give anything but the most general information. Anything you ask you get a general generic answer and a leaflet about how great they are.

If they could get their backlog under control they would save a lot of money, frustration and anger.

I just need to know if they will restore my licence or not so I can make decisions about my parents' care. With a licence we can continue as is for quite a while, without we have to start looking at alternative housing..... it's not just my life that the lack of decision affects.

Naw! just pretend ignorance!.. Cant read only got one eye:).

P.s I am NOT being serious!.

However the DVLA are a bunch of bankers. and couldn't manage a booze up in a brewery. Typical Civil Service. Neither Civil Nor Servile. Tried getting in touch lately?. They have NO proper e-mail system (Just an online form). The Phone system is ALWAYS Engaged. The last time I tried a FAX, They said they had not received it until I faxed them the copy of the receipt!. Just a bunch of "time servers" who should be shot!.

They sent me a letter asking for the form they had enclosed with the letter saying they hadn't received it....... then they denied having received my response - luckily I had a receipt for delivery and when I sent a copy of the signed receipt my letter was magically found.

SOLUTION IDEA: I might have to have someone drive the motorhome to their car park and leave it there until they decide what to do. I don't have a licence so can't legally move it :) I don't think they would tow it if I was inside -- would they??????

DVLA /DVSA the most inefficient , uncooperative , rude bunch of faceless civil servants I have ever had the misfortune to deal with
(9 months for a decision in my case) .
And we pay their wages, in the private sector they would be out of work .

If the system worked , fair enough. It doesn't. & yes they aren't a 'pain in the rear ' , they are far worse. In fact the words haven't been invented to describe them. Having unfortunately dealt with them on a regular basis habitual lying is par for the course.
From its inception it was staffed by utterly useless ,lazy idle, uninterested tossers & has now moved full circle to utterly useless, power crazy, lazy , idle , habitual liars. You'd think that after 51 years they'd actually be efficient .
I'm just fortunate to have a Spanish licence now.

Whoa there bro's an sis's.....what an uptight lot you are. Sorry, I do very much appreciate that you are frustrated at the lack of solutions to your licence renewals etc. I am a newcomer to the 'club' but I must say that I see lots and lots of recurring questions etc. about matters in this vein. I have to say though that it does somewhat irk me when I see messages that give detail that lacks any form of firm truths about what has, is or is about to occur. If you are trying (in vain) on here to promote your individual cause or case then, I feel you are doing yourselves a disservice by voicing it in the way you go about it. That is why you do not appear to get many useful suggestions which may assist you.

My suggestion to you all is; I feel one of you should assimilate and correlate your perceived grievances and, through the offices of our 'club' controller/s-contact the highest officer of the dvla directly, asking him/her to look into your cases. Other clubs etc. must have done something similar in the past and achieved a result so why not give it a go? I will say that, you will never get anywhere by venting your spleens on this FUN motorhome website but, you will if it is backed up by the force of numbers that we represent. Good luck and perhaps hard luck in measure to you all in your efforts. I will no doubt be in such a position(as may we all) one day myself so please, do a bloody good job and get it sorted once and for all!!

It has been done over and over via the Public Service Ombudsman (and others) who give recommendations but nothing ever changes which is why we blow off steam here....... Most of us have gone through the proper channels of complaint - including MSP, MP, PSO, and even the court system. The trouble is that it costs a lot of money and time and nothing actually changes as there is just too much work at the DVLA for them to cope with.

At the moment my MSP and MP are involved but are getting the generic useless answers that I have already had and we are no further forward. After I get some more copy documents and date confirmations from my specialist (as in what she sent and when) I can go back to the PSO and get a further ruling, although the PSO is a bit of a toothless tiger as it is all recommendations and the DVLA still haven't complied with the last ruling.

I also need the answers to my FoI request so I can find out if the DVLA are ignoring their own rules and timescales as a matter of routine.

Here are some contacts for the DVLA but I haven't had any joy from them as it all gets answered by an office clerk with the same generic answers.

On and off for many years.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-37703036

This is a report from 2009 that was published THIS YEAR!!!! There have been several health charities who have individually and as a group made complains on behalf of their service users - not always because of the actual decisions but because of the time taken to reach the decisions.

75,000 cases are said to be complex and have to go to panel. Some of the panels only meet once in six months and anything not dealt with gets put off to the next panel. It doesn't take long for many years of backlog to build up.

Despite the warm words from Oliver Morley nothing has actually changed or improved.

It all sounds very 60's to me. What with the CIA and de FBI and de DVLA. The PSO and de MSP. No one person can vent their spleen here and get any answers so don't bother! You're wasting your time mate! Start a petition. Change. org. Petition parliament. Blah blah, they're all there. Try every avenue-watchdog or whatever. Do not take NO for an answer. Do not however, start talking about individual cases-that is a very large NO NO. Oliver bleedin Morley's warm words? Why didn't you or someone else put him on the spot over that crap? Where do you get your 75,000 case evidence from? Surely not the DVLA- as there is a long waiting list???!!!

I would just like to point out that DVLA and DVSA are 2 entirely different, unconnected ( except by being Government agencies) bodies.
