Hi so I copy my DVD's to a 250gig usb drive, but how, without using a computer do I get them on the telly?

Is there a device I can plug it into, which connects to the TV and get a menu up on the TV screen?

You're probably looking for something like this

Plenty of them around (and I don't have experience of the one here, so can't advise), but be careful of the input and output specifications. (e.g will it play the DVD format you've got - which is probably VOB - and how does it connect to the telly).

Ebuyer have various types on other pages, but they are readily available from other suppliers.

As laptops generally come with various ways of getting video OUT, but not in, not an easy thing to do, and there are few ways that Mr Google would recommend.

Whilst it isn't an answer to your question, if you really want to use the laptop for viewing, I would consider a USB DVB-S tuner. Not much over £40, and you should get all the programs available on Freesat (albeit without the EPG or Text services - and I sometimes miss the latter).

it only gets terrestrial programmes , or at least mine does :roflmto:

as you rightly say , no epg or text or ...more importantly , red button

Specifically a USB DVB-S (satellite) tuner not a DVB-T (terrestrial) - the latter being even cheaper.

Whilst you can't get the text or EPG, the other red-button channels are available on non-Freesat satellite devices, if you know where to look  (and info is available via google)
