Hi,
I have a Hymer B544 2001 reg and the injector light is now on permanently. Blinks as if to go off and the comes back on. I am not a techy so may not be able to fix myself. Guy who looks after our car could not connect to the ECU. Do I need a specialist to diagnose?
There is no obvious loss of power or misfire - starts fine - recently fitted a solar panel and wonder if something electrical has upset the system.
Planning 3 weeks in Scotland - potential damage?

Many MH's are driven far far more gently than the design of the white van they are based upon envisaged.

First option before paying tons of cash to a garage, is get a bottle of diesel "injector cleaner" from Halfords etc, (maybe 4 or 5 quid) and pour it down fuel filler neck into fuel tank next time you're filling up, then fill tank as normal.
Then drive vehicle hard, foot to the floor often, and going well above your normal revs before you change up, for 15 minutes or so.
The idea is to repeatedly maximise the through-flow of diesel through the injectors into the engine cylinders, and allow the injector cleaning solution to dissolve some of the crud which may be restricting flow.

tonyidle,
Thanks, did google it - problem is with me, I'm not a mechanic. I can make sense of it, but to actually do the job would be a different matter all together. Plus I guess I like to know 'why' it is doing it. So at some point (if it does not clear) I would need diagnostics doing on it anyway.

Managed to get it sorted. The injector light on permanently is really a warning light for what could be a few things. Anyway the 3rd place I went to see (after 2 saying they could diagnose it but in fact they didn't have the right plug - one of which WAS a Fiat 'professional' centre) I booked it into a FITA professional centre in Shrewsbury. On calling them they confirmed they had the right kit to do a diagnostic the same day (the reason they had the right kit is that they had an Alfa Spider booked in the same day which required the same diagnostic connection). Pure chance - on questioning they said normally they would require a weeks notice as they needed to obtain the kit from FIAT. SO - if like me, you have an 'older' FIAT Ducato chassis based vehicle and it requires some diagnostics be prepared for a little run around. Finally - they cleared the permanent light and it was nothing more than a 'cooling fan relay' - how the heck would I have found that out?? Anyway - no parts required yet - they cleared the fault - £85.00 inc vat. Worth it for peace of mind - I thought it was odd that the engine was running smoothly, no misfire or loss of power. So now - 3 weeks in Scotland here we come - North Coast 500!

Is the injector light also known as the 'engine management light'?

I had this problem on my 3ltr Fiat based MH, and the local mechanic put it on the diagnostics and it came up with lambda sensor problem and some sensor on the turbo flagged up. He dismissed the turbo one as a gremlin, as he said that it was very unlikely due to the low mileage.
The lambda sensor he said could be dirty due to the MH not being used over winter for a while so he put some cleaning agent stuff in the fuel.
However the light came on again after a wee while. So I put some REDEX diesel additive in it and also the next few tanks I used Shell V-Power (I think this has something similar to REDEX in it). Amazingly the light went out by itself after another 100 miles and has been off for the last 600 miles.

Maybe just a coincidence, but here's hoping.
