Has anyone any experience of lowering the rating of their motor home so it falls inside the 3,500kgs post 97 licence limit?

A friend has a Hymer S670 which is 4.5t and has a kerb (or empty) weight of 3020kgs as quoted by Hymer. Once the van has been recommissioned after its winter break it will be weighed but the actual weight is unknown at present. She currently only "co-pilots" and wants to take on part of the driving duties but the logistics of taking the test are awkward.

Any advice would be much appreciated

I think find that empty weight first...
Hymer may quote 3020 kg but if anything has been added ie extra battery, awning, tow bar, solar, gas bottles etc... All that weight will come off what if left between 3500 and 3020.
Big van to try and get down to 3500kg..
