Local news are reporting that Dover Port have increased their security checks leading to big delays so allow plenty of time to book in.

The roadworks right through Dover from the A/M20 are still ongoing as well.

A20 and the town centre is chocker block the ferry companies have had to make allowances for the booking system as nobody is getting there for the timed sailings, school holidays and heavy freight movements are the cause the checks are holding all back.

Came though yesterday evening. Coming home was no problem at all, French border control and UK border control were checking passports at Calais. Took about half an hour and they didn't search the van.

Going out of Dover last Friday night was no problem at all, no delays or hold ups. Straight through check in.

I just can't understand how they were so slow on the uptake.

If I was trying to protect a country extra security would be in place immediately not a week or so after a terrorist attack.

Came back on 17th July. Initial booking time was 00.55. Because we had our dog with us and never travelled with a pet before, I decided to go to the pet area around 19.15. Everything checked out then drove to check in. It stated next train was 20.20, no charge so I accepted that option. Went to French control. He said, 'Engleesh', i said yes, waved through. British control examined all passports and sent through. Stopped at final cabin for check for gas. Actually first time they actually tried to turn off as normally they accept me doing it. Straight up ramp, no traffic, straight onto train, 4 vehicles behind us. Shuffled up as normal and train departed at 20.06. They'd put G and H together I assume as we were H and told to go whilst at Duty Free and waved through.
First time it was that quick from entering the Tunnel entrance at 20.45 and getting off at Folkestone at 20.45.
Never had interior check as usual. Never pulled over except for gas check. Quickest ever Calais to Folkestone. Including pet being checked and a quick visit to duty free it was about 1.20 hours. Amazing and that was AFTER the Nice atrocity.

Obviously the queues & 14h traffic jams aren't anything to worry about because we're apparently pulling border control officers from the ports to help out at Heathrow !

Heathrow passport queues: Staff brought in from ports

Extra staff have been redeployed from Channel ports to help airport colleagues deal with delays.

Can't keep all those precious airline passengers waiting an hour or two!

We crossed on the tunnel last night. Heavy traffic up to and through check in. All high vehicles delayed by half an hour, French passport control waved us through and nobody checked the gas was off, ( it was)
Lots of queues to get to the ferry though, but we avoided the hold ups by driving through Dover town avoiding Jubilee Way.
