I have a bunion and hammer toe, getting painful to walk.
Can't wait 2 years on NHS her so I want to know if anyone has had any operations abroad?
I have been quoted the following with a private hospital in Malaga.

We can offer your Hammer toe and* Bunion surgery for a price between 1.950€ and* 2.950€* at our hospital in Malaga, depending of its with or without osteotomy.

Our offer includes:
- Free consultation without commitment with our specialist prior to surgery
- Pre-surgery analisis (Blood analisis, ECG, Thorax X-ray)
- Medical fee and nurses, until discharge from the hospital
- Anaestesia fee
- Individual room at the hospital, with additional bed for a relative
- Catering (meals, drinks) and dry cleaning during your stay at the hospital (meals are not included for the relative)
- Regular hygiene products for patient care
- All surgery costs (equipment, surgery room,...)
- Additional tests, if required
- Post-surgery controls

plus they collect you from your hotel or campsite and return you.

I am a little worried about the language barrier, I don't speak Spanish.

Anyone had any work done over there and can share it please?

ALSO what is osteotomy?

Its £5000 here private.

I had the left foot done 14 years ago NHS.
Very painful but pain only lasted a week.

The pain from this one is constant when walking, ok when resting though.
Making me resistant to walking. ... result...Getting me fatter. Not good.

Can't remember ;)
I think osteotomy is where they operate /cut /grind etc to the bone ---cannot advise as to have it done or not but I would think you will be hobbling around quite some time ---If it goes tiits up you can always do what everyone else does and come home to get the NHS to do it right and pick up the tab ::bigsmile:That way you won't have to wait 2 yrs

edit--Only a suggestion but have you tried paying private to see a consultant here ? A couple of hundred quid can work wonders on waiting lists--tell consultant you have no money

Friends have had hip replacements, knee ops etc in Spain, no probs.

My son was seriously ill in Spain 10 years ago, diagnosed and treated in Majorca.

Returned to UK was re-diagnosed, started to treat him, fell ill again.

After I complained at the change in treatment he was put back on the 'Spanish' medication - steroids and Ibruprofen and quickly recovered.

Hospitals and healthcare in Spain, in my opinion, are just as good if not better than ours.

Language should not be a problem they will have some English-speaking staff

I had a quote from bupa £250 consultation fee.
They asked me what the procedure was called ( hammer toe correction) surely they should know that?
Quoted £2.950 for bunion only.
Getting back to me when they find out the name of the procedure! !!!

I can choose my hospital.

My sister had a bunion 'done' this year and bought a 'knee walker', made all the difference not having to put her foot down or use crutches - in her words - worth every penny.:thumb:

Took it to the hospital (NHS) - never seen one before, asked her to donate it, but she needs the other bunion doing next year

If you see your own GP and ask to see a consultant they pass you on --pay them the fee and tell them you have no more money /insurance etc and deffo no BUPA -they then can recommend the procedure and where to have it done and also move you up the list :winky:
I did this 3 times with Ann for different things, one a Hysterectomy that she had been told she needed urgently but would have to wait 3 yrs :Eeek:--paid and she was done 6 weeks later :thumb: Not a ideal situation I know but if it only takes a couple of hundred I am all for it :thumb:
terry
PS I would pay the 2k-ish and have it done there :winky:
