Has anybody had problems with the automatic locking device on the fridge and freezer parts of the Tec tower. Travelling in Spain two weeks ago we suddenly lost the whole fridge door and contents which came hurtling down the van. Can you imagine the mess, broken eggs, milk, wine etc all over the floor.
We were aware the fridge did not always lock and usually checked it before setting off but we omitted to do this after stopping for 5minutes to check details of a site. As we had not got out of our seats we did not think about the fridge.
The bottom hinge is damaged and I think we will need a whole new door. A fridge door coming open is one thing but for the whole door to come off when we were only going round a moderate bend seems to indicate a fault.
We finished our holiday with a fridge that had to be closed using clothes pegs as wedges and tying it up with bungee cord when we had to travel.
Is this an insurance claim or should we contact Dometic and get them to look at it.
Advice please?

The hinges do seem a bit flimsy don't they?

There is a problem with the locking system which, again, is very flimsy.
If the lock gets jammed in the lock position it prevents the door from closing properly.
There is a cross-slot screw in the top of the locking mechanism. Take this out and you can get to the locking tongue. Manoeuvre the tongue back into place and replace the screw to get the lock working properly.

i have a simple rule.

Dont trust anything that does things by it self unless its a person ( and even then it can be questionable ):thumb:
