I would put it down to BOREDOM being stuck on a site with zilch to actually do. bit like being in hospital bed, you need to find things to stop you going dippy, I know, I'll clean the van all over for the second time , there may be some dust on the roof.
Mines at home and Just looked out and it is covered with black stains, where does it come from ,, maybe if they were GREY stains it came from the water.

When we do our winter tour to Morocco via Spain I will wash the van possibly twice in four months when it gets so mucky it is embarrassing. In between times I will clean the windscreen, mirrors and lights regularly.
The van gets a full valet before we go and again when we get home. It takes about a week to get all the sand and dust out of all the lockers, cupboards and cubby holes.

Wouldn't normally bother, but, in Morocco this year I pretty much had to, as every time I went near the van, I had to change my clothes as it was that dirty and the dirt transferred to me!!

I did feel embarrassed over the winter in Morocco 'cause our van was the most dirty of all the British, but by the time I get up in the morning and do all the other things that are urgent its beer-time and then it's dark, and another day is over."Must try harder"(school report spring to mind again)

Yes, can't stand driving a dirty van. I do like to clean it on motorway service stations as well especially whilst in Spain:whistle::moon2:

Perhaps we get less flies to clean off because we don't go over the channel :)

Another factor is that I use Onedrywash to clean the van at home after each trip and that leaves a coating which less muck sticks to. I cleaned it last week, after we had been away for 4 weeks, and it only took about 2 hours taking it fairly easy.

One year. A whole one!
I hate Udo getting dirty and so he's cleaned before a trip, during and after.

This was Udo (23 years old and original everything) after two weeks away in the New Forest and the Isle of Wight just before heading home. He's just as clean inside, too.

I always carry a full cleaning kit of Meguiars waterless spray cleaner, Meguiars polish, Harly wax, Meguiars tyre shine, etc. And, yes, I do enjoy cleaning him. I don't really care what others think but rarely does a trip pass without someone complimenting Udo's condition.

Do you all put out a large tarp to catch all the Grey Water and take it away or does it just drop there.

Don't blame anyone for looking after their investment! Ship shape and all that !

Don't think I'd trust the local cosowash as the acid they use dissolves everything !

I would never use one of those places either.. Truck wash and fairy liquid. Mmmmm

Not a bloody chance, do windscreen if absolutely necessary when we fuel up but that's it. Gets washed about 3 times a year and polished once.

Never say never eh?? YEP I washed the sodding thing ..... black lines down the sides after the rain shamed me into it BUT ........ I (motorhome actually) have black spots that when rubbed hard with the back of my nail (finger) comes away after turning green and can then be washed away... there are lots of em and I'm guessing its a moss type thingy. So, what to use to get shut of the damned things that won't involve wearing out my nails and spending the rest of the summer at it ...... still trying hard to avoid the polishing thingy but all bets are off at the moment ......

Sadly no where to keep it indoors, the mould there when I bought it thought about using the anti mould products we have in France but not sure if they are too aggressive

Water is in short supply in places like Portugal so one should not really waste water washing the van it is disrespectful.
