Been meaning to clean the roof of the motorhome for quite a while. Any idea what this 'reddish' deposit is ?

Broken Link Removed

It came off with a bit of a scrub and the rest of the dirt came off too (don't want to have to do it too often !!). Quick snow foam of the rest of the van and should be good for our next trip.

Have you had your van down at Redcar at the Blast and got it covered in rust particles? :roflmto:

I cleaned our van yesterday and, for some reason, the roof (but not the sides) was twice as dirty as usual but it was only some sort of dark dust, nothing like that.

a long shot......and mainly guessing but,

Do you live in a rural area ?

If so it could be red algea caused by phosphate fertiliser mist settling on your roof then standing water causing it to bloom.
When the water dries out it leaves a red residue

A Woosh bang
Maybe it's the red dust/sand that blew in from N Africa a few months ago.

It was like that last year (I've just managed to borrow some ladders), so don't think it was the Sahara.

Do you have a silver birch tree close to where it is parked?

We get a very similar residue colour in our greenhouse gutters which regularly clog with silver birch seeds, actually not seeds more like mini catkins
