Following on a recent thread in Fun, there might be some truth in it.

It's stories such as this that make me so glad I drive a petrol V8 and an old-tech Tdi that'll take a good dollop of petrol to thin stuff down if need be.

Certainly there has been a lot of trade talk about this issue since the compulsory increase in biofuel was announced. Biofuel is anything produced from other sources that mineral. There are issues as to its performance and for obvious reasons fuel companies are using the cheapest form which has a low cetane and high cloud point ( waxing or gelling point) Hi spec biodiesels such as cooking oils which people use for home production of bio diesels do not suffer so much

Presumably a vehicle not being used regularly through the cold weather could be at a greater risk when started up, or am I misunderstanding the physics

There is another thread running on this. The fuel should be the right specification for the expected temperature, or everything would fall over.....
