My Hymer has just cut out on me and the auto electrician has diagnosed the coding on the fuel pump needs decoding? has anyone else had this problem? if so what did it cost and did it solve the problem. I drove about 9 miles and the engine just cut out completely no lights on the ignition, and it seemed the battery was dead. Its been in the garage for 3wks now, everything has been checked and is fine. Apart from the fuel pump coding, I've no idea what this means. i just hope this does not cost a fortune. Any advice would be grateful. Thanks.

I'm not that technical, but know that the immobiliser is linked to the fuel pump. The problem lies somewhere in the gubbins between the two.
Some vans cut out, others won't easily turn off.
From memory, the solution is often to recondition the fuel pump.
Sadly cost is upwards of £500. I recommend going to a good diesel specialist, who will of seen this problem many times....

good luck with it

This is a situation I am aware of

As I understand (i.e. from what I was told) it if you have the master key (which typically is a different colour or has a coloured insert) you can pop along to Fiat and get the key reprogrammed to the gubbins in the pump. Sound simple eh?

Unfortunately for me I bought a vehicle without the master key :shout: The solution was to get the vehicle towed to an independent garage who opened the fuel pump with a diamond drill, removed all the gubbins that stopped it working, and put it back together again. I think it cost me around £250

I think you may be better going off and having a look on a Fiat forum for some answers. http://www.fiatforum.com/ducato/

since 1967
from my research it appears the key needs recoding and should cost nomore than 1 hours labour at the main dealers. Unless of course you have the red key?

many many years! since I was a kid
the previous model ducato was plagued with immobiliser issues on some vans. the work around was to bypass the immobiliser wiring permanently. about 1 to 2 hours work for somebody that knows how. eddie at vanbitz does and will sometimes explain how to a qualified auto electrician. not knowledge to be passed onto just anybody you understand. ask him nicely and he may be willing to help

This was suggested to me ( you can google how to ) of course this effectively leaves you without an immobiliser.
Nobody would ever know you'd disabled it but even so...

best bet is to remove the immobiliser on the pump replace it with a standard plunger and wire to 12 volt ignition feed my mate has done a lot of these on berlingo vans but you have to attack the pump with an angle grinder not easy
