one of the working mens clubs I used to drink at had a problem with scale in the drains that was seriously reducing the flow and caused occasional blockages. anyway some bright spark bought some super duper acid drain cleaner from the wholesalers and poured a full gallon down the urinals. It worked in that it stripped the scale off the pipe walls, but blocked the drains so solid they needed pumping out then dig out the obstruction. there was several barrow loads of scale removed in huge lumps. it is far better to treat a problem like that regularly and with small doses than going ott when the problem starts getting bad

oh nearly forgot to mention the fumes from the drain cleaner working closed the club for a few days as the air was toxic. the acid also took the chrome off the urinal drains. nasty stuff to work with, but that was before elf n safety became so important
