I have one of the cheap ones and it works on the same principle. Every 5 minutes it saves what it has recorded and moves on to the next file. It continues to store until the card is full and then overwrites the oldest ones. Just like yours but shorter segments. And I have a 32Gb card which records over 8 hours before it is full. So you have up to 8 hours after the incident to save it.I suppose you get what you pay for.
The Roadhawk records in 20 minute segments which it stores for easy finding later.
It continues to store segments until the card is full then begins overwriting old files.
Depending on SD card size you could have 8 hours or more of saved data.
