I understand that Jaws. I was just talking about me and I suppose others from the West Midlands and North West. I just think that for us, occasional users, it's not really user friendly.

And I completely agree !
We are only likely to use the crossing two or three times a year tops, but hey, if it removes the totally crazy traffic jams it has got to be an improvement over all

I'm at my van now so able to access my V5C and it clearly states next to body type "MOTOR CARAVAN" so I'll be on to them later today

When I eventually spoke to the right person and gave him my two registration numbers, the Smartie came up as vdub polo !
The van was no issue at all though and he said straight away that is the same class as the car

just ring them.. I found em helpful and friendly

I just phoned (0300 3000 120) and spoke to a lady called Margaret who didn't have a clue and said it was correct.
I pointed out that motorhomes are and always have been charged as cars.
After speaking to a colleague she has amended me.
I can't have been more than 2 mins on the phone. I'll give it an hour and check my account

Why do all these employee's not know the rules /regulations off by heart ? It is their job after all .
Why is the office in Leeds ? Probably for the same reason that the LEZ offices are in Brighton. No congestion , hold ups etc. They should all be made to work where the congestion is.

By the time they get to chasing the foreigners, me, the charge & fine will be in the hundreds.

As I hadn't had any communication from them (I'm an existing Dart-Tag user) I was getting worried about them migrating my account to the new company. I therefore phoned them today, got through promptly to the existing people. Nice lady (who is being made redundant along with all of her colleagues on the 30th) directed me to the 0300 300 120 number.

That call was straight forward until dumbo here didn't know what model vehicle he drove! I felt like a girl; "Well it's a Peugeot Boxer 130 multi-jet and it's silver". (NOTE to others, have the logbook handy!!)

Never even occurred to me that there was an 'L' this, an 'L' that, an LT, a 330, a 335, 350 etc

Anyway, once I gave my religion, inside leg measurement, collar size and body mass index, all went ok.


Had to make up a PIN number and apparently, my new Dart-Charge Tag will arrive soon. We'll see!!! Have to dump the old tag on 30th

Motorhomes are B class vehicles. The website goes on the chassis type and charges accordingly. I just phoned them up, they were very helpful and registered me as B class.

Fiesta van is a van so there is a correct listing my Viva and mini vans used t get it too.
There must be windows behind the driver to be a car.

From the gov site-

Class
Car - Including trailers, motorhomes, vans and buses with less than 9 seats
2 axle heavy goods vehicles (including vans)
Multi axle goods vehicles


I've just checked and my Fiesta van has got less than 9 seats so think that it should in the B class

No it is a van, no windows behind the driver, my mini van got it too as a commercial.
Just hope that tag axles do not get booked as multiaxle GOODS VEHCLE that cost a lot more.

I mentioned to the chap I had a tag.. he assured me it made not a jot of difference, as all motorhomes are in the same ( car ) category

The only bright side is the folk who are working at the call centre do, in general, seem to actually WANT to help, unlike the lot at the DVLA who will not deviate from their script !

You just get one lane open and a two hour wait instead, missing your ferry. Three or four lanes into one for a bloke drilling a hole, just at the time the cheapos arrive on mass to claim their free crossing.

We came up the M20 from the ferry (or tunnel, forget which) and it was about 10 to 10, I said Oh well never mind, shouldn't have gone quite so fast! and got out the money ready (Pete driving obv.) - but when we actually got there traffic was at a standstill and there was a huge queue for the tunnel, so you couldn't get through at all even when willing to pay. On the stroke of 10 the barrier went up and off we went.

I presume the same thing will apply after the toll booths cease.

Had a couple of attempts on line but it froze then accepted input albeit THEIR address finder missed out the village name but advised me of 3DS error. Got helpful lady who apologised saying system was not accepting card details on web. She set up a payment and changed MH to Class B without question. I have car and MH on there. Not likely to be frequent user but I have now taken away need to phone or pay online within 24 hours of use. Not wanting all that hassle when on way to France. For 1 phone call now, I have an account which I can top-up online at leisure and @ £1.67 instead of £2.50 which would still need to be paid somehow!! if no account.
