Our 3 week trip to France turned into 24hours as my mother and father had a serious accident,my father lost control of his automatic car and hit 8 cars.Result my mother has 2 breaks in her leg and lacerations to her face etc.Going to be in hospital for a long time, anyway we rushed home via the Dartford crossing and in all the turmoil I forgot to pay the Dart charge.Got a penalty notice today, went online and paid what it asked me for £2.50 !!Summary. You have paid £2.50 FOR THE PENALTY CHARGE AND CROSSING FEE.YOUR PAYMENT CONFIRMATION NUMBER IS;XXXXXXXXXX.Is this correct.I thought and expected to pay a penalty charge. What shall I do?

Friend of a friend got the letter, but on re-reading, it plainly said no fine as first offence, so just pay fee.

And then wait for the next notice that says you didn't pay and now have to pay £105 penalty!
I paid my £2.50 in July after getting the penalty notice. Then they sent me another 3 weeks ago. It's taken till yesterday to sort it out.
Even though I paid as soon as I got the original notice, they still make out it was my fault
Here's an excerpt from their last email to me

Dear Sir / Madam,

In reference to your request regarding the cancellation for the above Penalty Charge Notice, we have evaluated your case based on the points raised by you.

We are happy to inform you that your Penalty Charge Notice Cancellation Request has been accepted and your Penalty Charge Notice has been cancelled."

Best wishes to your mum and dad. I don't think you're going to have any problems with the crossing charge tbh.

Give them a call and explain. I forgot to pay before the deadline but paid when I realised my mistake. I got a penalty notice but called them and all was sorted out - penalty waived.
