Similar but for a different reason

Remember I have a Toad.! with an overall length of 35 feet.

(Sign on wall of Reception TENTS ÂŁ3 / CARAVANS ÂŁ5 / MOTORHOMES ÂŁ5)

Private carvan Sit on Skye about 6 years ago.Pulled into site facing reception infact they couldn't see around van.

ME'' Good afternoon

SITE.( Female) That will be ÂŁ5 a night including Electric. ( No greeting )

ME Okay I will stay for two nights as we are touring.

SITE If you park where you are but at right angles to your present position that will be fine.

ME. are you sure because wont I block your view of the Site.

SITE No problem cos I dont want to see anymore of you coming in.

ME Okayyyyyy ( I then went out and proceeded to park as directed )

SITE (Owner comes running out) You didn't tell me you were towing a car, that will be an extra ÂŁ3 per night.

ME Are you charging that caravan an extra ÂŁ3 to park his car.

SITE No.of course not.

ME Then why do you want to charge me as there is nothing on your advertised list in Reception to say Cars towed will be an extra ÂŁ3.

SITE If you dont pay I will send out my Husband to see you

ME By all means do and we will discuss this problem he has with charging extra.
( he never turned up and I obscured there vision for the next two days)

Needless to say we never went back there on subsequent visits.

Another one that springs to mind regarding the CCC, cant remember the site but it was near Romney Marsh about 18 years ago.The site was basically a round grass area with ALL vans looking into the middle from the outside. Pulled up at reception in my very first Motorhome a Sherpa Highwayman and went in.

Warden:- Sorry this is a members only club we dont take Motorhomes.

ME : ( handed over my card ) I rang last week and booked in for two nights.

Warden:- You didn't tell us you were a Motorhome.

Me:- You didn't ask me.

Warden:- Well you will have to park up in the top corner away from the Caravans.

Me That will suit me fine.( after we had parked up and had a Brew, my two children who were around 6 & 10 went out with a frisby onto this large open grass area to play)

KNOCK ON DOOR

Warden Are those your children playing over there on the grass?

Me Yes, why?

Warden They cant play there, that area is for show only.

Me So where is your play area?

Warden We havent got one on this site you will have to go to the one down the road, where they cater for children.

Me Did I not see a couple walking across there with a couple of dogs.

Warden Yes. Dogs are allowed.

Again you can see why I dont go to That club.

Warder: Welcome to xxxxxxxxxxx. Enjoy your stay. Here's a map of the site. Park where you want within the highlighted areas. Is this your first time away?
Me: Yes, it is

Two hours later, warden stops by our pitch.

Warder: Hi, how are you getting on? Watch that awning if the wind gets up, and if you have any problems, call at the office.
Me: Ok, thanks for your help

How nice was that?

A lot of RVers will prolly relate to this one...............

Warden "Ooooooo, I didn't realise you were THAT big":Eeek:

This is after you've pre-booked and been carefull to include words like, "bus", "truck", "coach" etc etc etc.

Best one was a private site.
I'm driving as we pull in.
Stop and go see Mr Warden leaving SWMBO in the rig.
Me and Mr warden mooch off down the site to view a suitable pitch and choose one.
I wave up the site to ffi to bring the rig down (34ft GeorgieBoy Landau).
So, she does a stirling job of weaving between trees and vans to get to us.

........at which point, Mr warden say, OK, let your husband back it in and I'll direct!:Eeek::Doh:

Tell you what Mr Patronising, you stand there and I guarantee the my lass can park the rear diff' 50 thou off your nose!:thumb:

Ahhhhhh, errrrrrrr, i'll leave you to it then.

After picking up my brand new nexxo t660,i went to a site about 2hrs from peterborough,
where i was going to a dog show,i drove into the site, and heard a horrible high pitch squealing noise, fearing i'd just ran over the wardens cat,i stopped the van and got the wife to check what had happened(takes me to long to get out) only to find that a big plastic post had ran down the side of my van. Then the warden came out quite nonchalantly and said everybody does that. After just about choking and my face turning a lovely scarlet colur and steam coming out of my ears,I said to the idiot or warden as he likes to be called, why don't you remove the post.I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT SAYS HE.At which point i wnet and found a pitch and got the black mark remover out:Mad:

Only ever had one incident of 'you can't park there, you need to be wherever'
That was on a CC site
Since I have avoided them like the plague ever since I have no stories of daring do pitting my wits agin a Hitler type !

Anyway, generally speaking a battle of wits with the average CC type seems very unfair.. Battling someone unarmed is not right at all !!

I am a member of both the CC and the CCC never had any poblems. But have met some very bad tempered wardens.
I think in some instances it is a case of square pegs in round holes.

Keep them coming

This is one of the most entertaining threads on fun at the moment.

I never knew there were so many stupid people running camp sites.

Only ever had 1 problem when the warder came up with big grin on his face & proceeded to pace out the distance between our van & the next. Trying to prove, no doubt, we were less than the regulation 6m from the next van. He took enormous strides but still couldn't reach the other van in 6 strides :ROFLMAO: & quietly crept away.

I have never stayed on a CC or C&CC campsite ever despite being a member of the CC. Now I know why.

Whats interesting is I do read the CC magazine. Its full of cringeworthy letters praising the CC wardens who are their new best mates. Hmm. Are there letters pages a tad biased I wonder?

Me personally I like to wild camp in the middle of nowhere with nobody else around. Or give me a rickety old CL on a farm where the farmer says " ah just park where yer like and stick the money through the door when yer leave".

Regimented campsites sound gastly.

Some flipping great stories though!

Cheers

I dont know about the cc sites but the ccc sites are a bit like travelodges, when your in one you know it, their all the same.

They must have a master plan for sites at HQ.

Leaving wardens aside a lot of whom are very nice we stay on ccc site a lot and do enjoy them.

Have always camped, caravaned or had boats. Now in our second year with the motorhome.
Well I never imagined that there was so many storys like my own of bad customer relations and down right incompetence. As I said earlier I am soo glad its not just me as mrs ips and 17yr old daughter are convinced I am a grumpy old git :ROFLMAO:

Moral to story
Never ever have anything to do with wardens leave it to mrs ips and daughter who have the patience to deal with it. :thumb:

You are missing out:Smile:
We stayed on a famous CC site with our 18ft Pilote. Told to pick a pitch - all hard standing with grass between and well spread out.
We chose one and parked so that our awning would be over the grass.
A little while later, the warden came and told us that we couldn't use the grass - only the hard standing. Fine except our windbreak is the bang in the grass variety. So we moved over and put out the awning but only part way to avoid the grass.
Then I saw the warden on his sit-on mower. Now I have come across the Ex-RSM (Regimental Sergeant Major) types in the army so saw an opportunity for revenge.
As he approached a hook-up cable I rushed over and lifted for him. Then there was a branch in the way for me to move. After about 20 minutes of this he was clearly getting uncomfortable having to say "thank you" to me, and stopped. He came over to our pitch and said "Why don't you put the windbreak up on the edge of the grass?"
10 minutes later and not only had we got the windbreak up on the grass, but he had done most of the work.
At the end of the weekend we were bossom buddies, of course.

Not a member of any club, but when renting a mh last year, we pulled onto the site, asked if there were any pitches available for one night, maybe two. Greeted with a friendly smile, and told we could have pitch 10, as its available for 5 nights should we want to stay any length up til then. The groundsman will escort you to your pitch, and help set you up. There is also a fire ring and wood is available for campfires. Yes, you've guessed it, we were in America, actually, Burlington, Vermont, not England, what a difference!

A couple of things I had to deal with at Setthorns in the New Forest (since it changed organisations a few years ago)

"You can't bring your motorhome (self build) on here...it is a van, it doesn't have any windows. "

"But I was here last year...it is a motorhome, I have the paper-work saying so"

"Can't come on this year"

"That van over there doesn't have any windows..."

"They have a tent..."

"I have a tent"

"Ok, but you have sleep in the tent not the motorhome..."

...and the next month when I returned for a week in my old Hymer...

"You can only run generators from 10am until 6pm... and never after 10 at night"

Jeesh...I hope that's the only similarity they have . I'm about to start MH'ing, partly to avoid Travelodges (for business trips).

Mind you...reading this thread, it sounds like the staff are just as cheerful...

Me (having just arrived): Excuse me...can I swap this towel please? It's not clean.
Travelodge receptionist: <not amused...takes towel...grumpily inspects and tuts>Mmmm...here you are <walks away>
Me: Err...thanks.

Just promise me you don't have fire alarms going off by accident at 7 am at CCC sites, then it will be just like a Travelodge

Roller Team
Exp
Since 2009
We stayed at the C&CC site at Chertsey in November along with our friend who had booked her motorhome for the site first. When I booked for us they only asked me the length of it, not a make or model. On arrival there were 4 wardens to greet us, and it was a wet and miserable night about 6pm. You'd of thought I'd committed murder when they saw the Roller Team. " You never told us it was a Roller Team", well you never asked so I didnt tell you, was my reply. They were having a management meeting as to whether we should be allowed on site or not, and in the end we were. One of the wardens cycled in front of us to show us to our pitch, he then proceeded to measure the allocated pitches by pacing them the legal 6m apart from your "neighbour in case of fire". Think he must of had small feet ::bigsmile:. What a farce when we saw a foreign motorhome parked completely the wrong way round and taking up 2 if not 3 pitches. Today I found the receipt for the site and noticed they had charged us for a serviced pitch, mmm wonder who got our pitch?
