We have managed to get some time off around the week leading up to 6 th June this year and are intending to go over to Normandy for the D Day celebrations. HRH will be there this year and for anyone who hasn't been before it's quite a good experience as all the locals really get into it.. Lots of history and historic sites...
(if you like the film "the longest day" then you will love Normandy on 6 th June)
Is also a sobering opportunity to pay your respects to the unbelievable amount of war graves in the American cemetery or the numerous British and other ones.

Been twice on June 6. Last year was great and I think this year will be better. Well worth a visit.

The new circular cinema at Arromanches 'A trip at the heart of D-Day' is well worth a visit, but it is graphic and can be upsetting at times. You come back outside, overlooking the Mulberry harbour and still can't grasp the enormity of it all.

The aire at Arromanches gets packed, you need to get there early if going that way, the municipal site is pretty good just behind the aire. They do not allow overnight camping at the large carpark at the circular cinema.

Lovely evening here in normandy, a bit windy. Plenty of aircraft in the skies around us all practicing for the 6th. Lots of things happening, found ourselves in a convoy of ww2 vehiclesthis morning, Brittany ferries are tweeting photos.
