We're heading to the Angers/Tours/Saumur area of the Loire next week to do some gentle cycling. Any suggestions of good cycle routes and aires would be most welcome.

Thanks

There's a Cicerone book called Cycling the Loire. £15 from them but less from other suppliers. It won't help on aires I suspect but has idea about routes.

In the unlikely event you are driving past Plymouth you can borrow mine. :)

You can cycle almost anywhere along the river side and it's all flat  Plenty of Aire's along the way and more Châteaux than you can shake a stick at :)

Sounds like a very nice trip. Wonder what the kayaking is like???? Must find the Canoeists Guide to France that we used to have :)

Last year we stayed in this ACSI site in La Ville aux Dames near Tours and cycled along the Loire a Velo route. It's lovely. Flat and easy cycling and you can get right into Tours on the cycle track, stop and do some sight seeing then back again. On another day we cycled the other way, crossed the river and went to Vouvray where we found a lovely Aire. You can cycle from that Aire on the other side of the river and then across a footbridge to Tours. We thought it was fabulous and would return for sure.

As has been said stop anywhere along the Loire and you can be on a cycle path within a 100yds of your van. If you are up to it there are 800km of it source to sea, nearly all of it gentle and a great deal of it completely off road.

This is a useful site:

All the Tourist Information centres along your route have free maps and info. If you have time before you go you can e-mail one of them and they will post the leaflets and maps to you.
Edit to add: They've entered the 21st century since we last used them. You can now download the brochures:
