I'm a newbie
I went down to pula last year and have to say Croatia was a really nice place especially the plitvice lakes. Can't help with aires as we had the caravan at the time so utilised the acsi sites. In terms of currency we struggled with euros and changed up to local currency at our campsite. The main roads were fine to drive on and seemed quite quiet.

I think last time we were in Croatia a few years ago there were no "wild camping" allowed and very few or nil "aires". Camp Sites on the coast are expensive.

Visited Croatia in July - Stopped on 2 very good sites - Camping Strasko on the island of Pag and also we stopped at Navigrad - Camping Sirena. Both were top sites and would use again and got ACSI rates at both sites.

We are down there now just north of zadar fantastic people weather
Just where the little blue dot is
Unlimited internet £8 site price on average £15 a day but falling at start of September
This place puts the rest of Europe to shame
One big no no
wild camping is banned if you get caught instant fine by police this is from the guide books and everyone we have spoken to locals and tourists alike
On German reckons it's up to £400 on the spot fine unverified by me

We visited Slovenia and Croatia last year, stunning!
Suggest you visit Lake Bled on way down and Ljubljana on way back. We went in May when ACSI prices were in use and the weather not to hot. We visited Novigrad, Rovinj, Pula and Krk. All great places.
Very warm and friendly people. We will be back sometime in the future.

I have put some pictures of Lake Bled and Ljubljana in the Showcase.

The bottom of Germany is stunning. Have a look at 'the romantic road' worth doing and easy to put on your route.

We were there a few years ago lovely camp sites and people take a look at the official Croatia camping site here http://www.camping.hr/. this will give you a good idea. Quite a few acsi sites and also camping cheque. Also as philandmena said stop at lake bled on the way down camp site right on the lake and a great walk round the lake. there are lots of Lidl supermarkets to get your provisions beer etc.
We will be returning at some time in the future. Have a great trip.
