many many years! since I was a kid
looking for help in calculating what it takes to use a KW/h of electric ,if that is possible
well 1 kw/h is equal to using an appliance or any combination of appliances using 1000watts for 1 hour

so a 1500watt kettle would use 1 1/2kw per hour
a 2ooow heater will us 2kw per hour

For permanently connected devices each Watt of power will cost about £1.50 a year.
My Chrissie present of a DAB clock radio uses 12W so will cost me £18 a year to run.

Life's too short to bother

If were talking about campsite hook up..I agree with you, after all I like the fact that I can be comfortable with my pitch surroundings especially at night and that I'm not burning up my expensive Lpg...wild campers may have a different view:)

5 years, feel free to ask me about the Carado!!
I wish I could find out how much large windturbines use when they are on one of their frequent 'lubrication cycles'. Taking electricity OUT of the national grid....or the 'pr spin' as it is known in the trade.....that kind of info may bring down the whole rotten edifice.

Not wishing to be pedantic but it is "kWh" NOT "kW/h".

If you think about this, it is the power (in kW) multiplied by the time (in hours). (y)

So a 3kw fire used for 2h will convert 3 x 2 = 6 kWh and cost approx 90p [if it is 15p per Unit AND the thermostat is set very high so the fire is on continuously].

A 100W lamp (=0.1kW) can be used for 10h before converting 1 Unit [0.1 x 10 = 1].

A 250W TV (=0.25kW) will run for 4h for 1 Unit [0.25 x 4 = 1].

A 2 000W oven (=2kW) will cook for 1/2 hour [2 x 0.5 = 1] IF the thermostat does not switch it off (so probably a little longer), all for the sake of 15p.

etc - Gordon

PS Is electricity overpriced?

5x 100W lamps on from 4pm until 10pm will use ( 5 x 0.1 x 6 = 3Units)
1x 250W TV from 6pm to 10pm will use (0.25 x 4 = 1Unit)
2kW oven cooking dinner from 5pm to 6pm (2 x 1 = 2Units)
100W electric blanket from 10pm to 6am (0.1 x 8 = 0.8 Units)
3kW kettle for 20mins [several drinks] (3 x 0.33 = 1Unit)

TOTAL = 7.8Units = £1.17.

CCC price for EHU = £4.50 (?)

OK they have to install the cables and bollards, maintain them etc and this all has to be costed. :(
What could you do with £4.50 worth of LPG? (Apart from NOT watch TV?)

PPS Is diesel overpriced? Would you be prepared to push a 3t motorhome 25 miles in return for a payment of £6? (Especially if it had to be done in 30 minutes??):LOL::LOL:

Not long enough!
In Spain, some campsites charge 40 cents a kw. So using refillable gas and solar.
