Cornwall May half term (1 Viewer)

Hi Folks!
Any advice is welcome. We always head up to Scottish highlands to get away from it all for some walking and nice beaches (12year old twins and dog in tow) but are thinking of Cornwall for a change. Does anyone know if it is hideously overcrowded end of May/June week and whether we will get away with finding hideaway (no facilities type sites) sites near the beach without booking ahead - we want to travel around and explore a bit.

Cornwall is great, but if your looking for peace and quiet I would avoid it like the plague during school holidays ..

Have you thought of Pembrokeshire ? Just as nice if not nicer than Cornwall, reminds me of the Cornwall of my childhood when dad took us camping. Plenty of great beaches, headlands, quiet sites and opportunities to wild camp .

Or South West Scotland..

Discover an area largely forgotten by the hoards that head for the Highlands.. turn left at Gretna and leave the tourist trail and find the real Scotland. Largely unspoiled and without the tacky tourist shops full of Chinese made Highland dress dolls, tartan rugs and toy bagpipes ..

Cornwall in the spring is the best place on earth!! It is not too overrun with tourists at the may bank holiday and there are plenty of CL [caravan club 5 units only sites] all over the county and are usually quite quiet; the coastal footpath is a delight to walk at this time of year as there are only a few people who use it and they are usually "locals". The Mabe spring show formally called the "shindig" is on the sun+mon located on the truro to helston road just past the falmouth turnoff-this has been going for about 40yrs and is great fun with traction engines etc.
Visiting various gardens is a must--Trebah being my favourite on the helford river and of course the Eden project is another "must"!
You can see I'm very passionate about my home county and although we travel every year to different parts of europe it's a joy to get home!!:thumb:

There are lots of places around here that are great - there are so many beaches, there is always one that isn't crowded. I am sure as you are a member, you could be told local secrets on a hush hush basis! lol!

You won't regret it - just be alot warmer than scotland!

Cornwall is pretty diverse - you can overlook beaches, countryside, marinas - choice is yours!

Quite a tall order to find a quiet hideaway near the coast that week.
If you are in the Camping Club, then they are running some temporary holiday sites in Cornwall over that period. You usually don't have to book them and a couple of them look as if they are near the coast.

Get on the coastal B road between St Agnes and Hale. There are a lot of spots where you can park up free of charge. A couple are, Porthtowan on the waste ground behind the small parking area from the village shop. Toliets and water available at the main paying car park (toilets are free) Porthreath, on the main road free parking or the side roads. Past Porthreath, up the hill you come to Hellsmouth. Free parking at the cafe car park. Along the same stretch of road between Porthreath and Hellsmouth cafe are a few parking spots on the cliffs. There are also a few camping places along this route in case you wish to be on sites. Hope it helps.
