I'm a waver and proud of it. I wave at everybody, ever on motorways when normally the other driver can't see you. I'm even tempted to wave at a motorhome when driving my car. :yeah: :thumb::thumb:

many many years! since I was a kid
there really are some seriously sad gits out there, and on here, with their head stuck so far up their own arse that they dont wish to acknowledge a friendly gesture. its not creepy or weird to be friendly and greet strangers with a mere wave, it says more about those that dont than those that do

personally i always wave when possible and consider it just an extension of the motorhome lifestyle. we get out there in the van and enjoy socialising with other people who enjoy the same hobby/holiday choice. have met some wonderful and very interesting people through being friendly and socialising with other motorhomers

i consider non wavers as sad and rude people who have forgotten how to enjoy life. they obviously consider themselves a cut above and would never dream of talking to a stranger on a campsite. its their loss of course and i am certain we have all met, or seen them through the motorhome window, on sites around the world. you will always know them as they are the ones hiding behind windbreaks or sitting inside their van on a nice day glowering at the people walking past "their" pitch (how very dare they? :ROFLMAO:)

for those of you who wont wave, try it some time, you may shock yourself and enjoy it:thumb:

We both get upset if someone waves and we don't spot them 'til it's too late.
On the way thru Spain last year we were "waved" at by a van with a big flip-up hand on the dash. I want one!

Definite waver. Did as a m/c rider (or at least nodded) and see no difference as a M/H driver. We have the same interest. :thumb::thumb:

I wave, those who don't return or acknowledge my greeting are thought of as many things depending on my mood.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Not everyone is gregarious there are those who seek only their own company. What they gain by not waving I have no idea, its an interesting form of exercise as much as anything else.
If you don't wish to return my wave fine, you cannot read my thoughts anyway.

I wave and get quite offended if no one responds. I really enjoy the feeling of being in a special sort of family however it can be embarrassing when you wave and then realise you are in fact driving the Ford Focus estate !!!!!!! I also nod on the motorcycle unless they are the classic boy racer pillocks and never nod at anyone not wearing decent kit either....idiots.

I even wave at panel vans and Hymers ha ha ha

I discussed this point further when my husband came home from work today, to which he informed me he caught himself waving to a motorhome earlier, then felt daft as he'd forgotten he was driving an oil tanker!

I'm a dedicated waver, in fact if you've been rolling in your Mo Ho and been waved at by a blond in either a silver yaris or a blue bmw it's me....just forgetting I'm not in the van.

I love waving so much, sometimes we just go for a drive looking for motorhomes to wave at. It gives me a warm glow when people wave back and we laugh out loud if they don't.

We even have different waves...

Chicken wave... (leave it to the last minute to see who waves first)

Mexican wave... (Whole arm wave)

To cool for school wave...(languidly flick of the wrist)

Fellow autosleeper wave...(a wave of great enthusiasm)

Concorde wave...(like the royal wave in deference to a superior van) only done once.

Middle aged man alone wave...(cheery hand palm wave)

Jazz hand wave...(Friday night only wave)

Etc the list of waves is long my friends, don't knock it til you've tried it...

The wave I generally get locally, is that which appears to be someone holding a bottle by the neck and shaking it up and down :Eeek:

We always wave to fellow motorhomer's........... and usually get a wave back, unless they're foreign or hired vans and don't understand what's going on.

But yes, I always wave as Bill's driving and love it when the wave is returned. If it's not I say miserable s*d and forget about it, but as Mr Ed says would you ignore someone who said "good morning" to you? Most people wouldn't:Smile:

We always wave. It costs nothing, spreads a little happiness and sets us apart from all the other road users. We even wave at members from the Dark Side.:ROFLMAO:
The only stumbling block are those horse boxes that look like motorhomes.

So Allanm waves at anyone and everyone. Bless :roflmto:

I also say hello to everybody I walk past. Some ignore you but if you persevere, you eventually get a response. I stop and talk or say hello to people gardening, most respond well, especially if you say how nice the garden looks.
Family members usually walk a little ahead of me when we are out.
If someone has their bonnet up, well, it's an open invitation to stop and chat.
There seem to be too many around who are happy to ignore others, especially in the UK.
For real fun, I like to go on the tube and acknowledge people.....

Blimey I am shocked. It never occurred to me that some MoHo's don't wave back for any other reason than they simply didn't see us.

I consider myself to be honoured to be part of what I see as a fantastic community with marvellous people in it and would never dream of being rude to someone who is just trying to be friendly.

I do wonder if these people who won't wave would also step over someone who is lying injured in the street? I really do hope not.

I sometimes don't see oncoming MH's completely, let alone the waver, so am sometimes guilty of not waving back, but always by mistake (not seeing)

Just had a thought though, I also acknowledge all (most) I see on foot, but I wonder if the intentional non wavers are also the ones who can't or don't even acknowledge me when I have stopped to hold a door open for them

Now that is rude

It's wonderful that so many folk on here wave to others, but also a bit disappointing that animosity is felt towards those that don't.

The same freedom that we have in our MHs is the same freedom (of choice) for others to behave differently.

Our MH is a conversion so nobody waves to us.

I have ridden bikes for 38 years and always nod or flash at other riders.

When walking the dog I say hello to everybody.

But after my recent spate of mental health problems, I can barely put one foot in front of the other and have no time for socialising.
If somebody says hello to me and then gets upset when I don't return the gesture, they are in the wrong not me.

Getting bitter upsets you, not the person it is aimed at. Live and let live.

Carry on waving, but don't judge others as you don't know them.

.

I don't think anyone has shown any animosity for those people who choose not to wave to fellow motorhomers, that's their choice. Rather most don't understand how people can be rude enough to not return a wave. My kids used to be devestated when their frantic waves recived a stonely response.

I wonder, when two miserable sods pass each other and don't wave, do you think that cheers them up? :ROFLMAO:

My wife really goes for it when she is driving. Waves, flashes the lights the lot.

Its difficult to ignore her.

I am of a slightly more miserable persuasion but I do wave.

I have two waves. The first is an open hand wave with all 5 fingers extended. The second is only used when my well intentioned wave is ignored. This involves an inverted hand, with only one digit raised.

are you assuming all of us non-wavers are miserable sods?? then you're sadly mistaken. what cheers us up is the people who wave and we don't wave back - we always have a laugh wondering what's going through their minds and what they're calling us......:roflmto:

it's not a question of rudeness, it's not a question of being uncaring - we just do not see the point. simple as. we're all different and we should cherish that fact alone.

drive safely
