Continental vans color coding cables. Confusion. (1 Viewer)

following failure of a couple of batteries on a Elegance I821 the wiring proved puzzling,the previous owner had had a solar PV fitted via a 10amp regulator,however the wiring which had red and black wires were connected as red to the brown wire terminal which is the ground or negative terminal ,the black wire being connected to the black terminal which is the posative.
So check the battery cables to find the correct polarity ,connect a meter on ohms to the metal body of the van an apply the other lead to the brown wire ,if it reads a couple of ohms then that should be the negative .

Does your name suggest you have a Hymer or is it a Burstner? Either way the cabling colours are probably the same. On 12v systems Hymer use brown for -ve and black or blue for +ve.
