Heading from South Wales and using Dartford Tunnel en route for Clacton in a week or so?!
Can anyone give us precise directions to avoid (at all costs!) , the congestion charge once we exit the tunnel, please?!
Many thanks!

From South Wales I suspect you will be using the M4. As you are heading to Clacton Essex you will have no need to use the Dartford Crossing. At the M4/M25 junction use the clockwise route i.e. towards M40 /M1. Then around to junction 28 Northbound A12. No charges at all. Hope that helps

Getting better
Agree with above. When we come back home from Wales we use the M4,M25 north to junction 28, A12 north to Colchester and Clacton. If you do use the crossing for some reason then you need to buy a ticket on line either before or after your crossing. Stick to M25 and no congestion or LEZ issues.
Welcome to Essex enjoyed your stay.

One place to avoid is the dartford tunnel
At Christmas run up its choked with shoppers
Lakeside Thurrock Essex and bluewater Kent
Either side M25 Gets gridlocked

I would suggest round the top of m25
Join a12 @ Brentwood Essex on to clacton
Be aware last time I was that way
Average speed cameras were on

And 40 miles on from Brentwood look out for more
And they are well spaced
you think they have finished
And there is another

When you get to clacton the seafront parking of campers/motor homes is not allowed READ THE SIGNS before you walk away
But you can park on the side roads leading to the sea front
Not all yellow lines are in use after October it pays to look

@gypsyrose , as mentioned, as long as you stay outside the M25 ring of evil ( ;) ) you will not go in to the LEZ.
Many vans do comply with LEZ requirements though so although you should not need to enter, it is always worth popping your reg number in to the database and checking.
Here is a link for you:

As a by the by, we was at the crossing yesterday and it was completely free flowing with no hold ups what so ever ..

From S Wales you just turn L when you get to the M25 - so nowhere the River Thames

Turn left at the M25, clockwise around the top, A12 as far as Colchester then A120 towards Harwich. then follow the signs for the A133, Car Auctions (Colchester) look out for the diabolical rumble strips approaching the Frating Roundabout, they shake you to bits! That is the Shortest route. Clacton is straight on from there.
