The plate on my Kontiki 640L states a GTW of 4600 and a GVW of 3400 giving available towing weight of 1200 but the Ducato manual gives a maximum towing weight of 1600.
Which is the legal weight?
Mine was registered in March '97.
It uses a Ducato 14 TD SWB chassis which, in the manual, gives a towable weight of 1600
The Swift plate and the Alco plate both give a max of 3400 and 4600 giving a towable weight of 1200, whereas the Fiat plate gives 3200 and 4800 giving 1600.
I think I am going to be rather close to the mark with anything more than a Smart twofor.
As mine uses the MC34XA Alco chassis designed for 3400 total weight I am confused as to where the GTW of 4600 comes from as the Alco chassis manual gives Permitted towed load of 1600 and a Max permitted gross train weight of 4800.
This totally confuses me not that its difficult to do that.
Maybe if anyone from Swift is lurking they might like to clarify??
It would be nice to know whether there is any upgrade route to increase the payload and towable weight.
Motorhomes are Multi Stage Build Special Purpose Vehicles, e.g. the cab is a Fiat Ducato (Stage 1), the rear chassis is an Alko conversion (Stage 2), Swift (Stage 3). The Swift and Alko Plate read the same, In any Multi Stage Built vehicle the last stage plate fitted is the legal plate, a 1200kg tow limit in this case.
With regards to you second post may I ask you PM me the serial/VIN number of your Kon Tiki for me to look into.
