2 years ! Ex "Tugger" of 7 years + !!
Lo All

Well, having trawled this and other Motorhome forums, Comfort seemed to be a good bet to try for this years renewal.

Blimey, what a service! Very polite, knew their stuff ..... but to beat it all ..... the price !!!!! :thumb:

Currently with Sureterm Direct : Quoted £654.53 for next year !!!! Broken down this is : £451.75 to the underwriters / £81.65 for UK breakdown cover and best of all £121.13 for OTHER costs such as acquisition, rebroking, admin, claims handling, processing, print & staff cost's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are they a total joke or what ......................

Onto Comfort : Exactly the same insurance, £200 excess compared to £500 with Sureterm, Full RAC Commercial breakdown recovery + all the other usual stuff included ( £3000 personel cover on items, awning cover etc ) all covered by Aviva for ................ wait for it ............................................................. £252.34 !!!!!!!!!!! :ROFLMAO:

How on earth can another company charge £400 MORE for almost identical insurance ?

This is for our Swift Kontiki 669 Tag-axle on a 57 registration with tracker fitted covered for £50,000. :thumb:

So, when our renewel comes up on the 20th June, it's BYE BYE rip off SureTerm and HELLO Comfort ( already paid for ! ):winky:

Have just moved from Comfort this year because they have stopped doing the No Claim Bonus scheme which to me on full NCB is very worthwhile.

Just coming up to our first anniversary of being proud MH owners so tried Comfort for a quote. Was absolutely made up with their quote of £192. I cannot see Club Care, the Insurance arm of the C & CC getting anywhere near that, but will give them the opportunity of doing so, at least. They gave me a "mirror" NCB of 4 years to match my car (actually it is more than that) but I think they will be struggling, particularly in view of the £359 premium (without breakdown cover) for last year.

SAGA would not quote me as I have only been using the storage facility for one year. Even the call handler was apologetic about that. Did not make sense to him, either.

Now, the question is, what am I to do about breakdown cover? Use the C & CC arranged "Arrival" via RAC, go with the RAC via Comfort for £72 (I think) or look elsewhere?

Comfort also do European breakdown cover on an additional vehicle (ie car) for only £45 extra. (that was a couple of years ago, so not sure if that's changed)

You may already be aware but it's worth stating anyway; with 'mirrored' no claims discount if you do need to claim any financial penalty will be applied to BOTH of you insurances. IE, it's as if you had both vehicles with the same insurance.
I hadn't realised this until last year when the broker told me; we were going to insure the MH in my husbands name with a 'mirrored' no claims discount. After we were told about it we changed the insurance to my name as I had sold my car 6 months previously and could therefore apply my NCD to the policy. Although it is in my name, my OH is down as the main driver.:thumb:

Hi just had my quote from comfort £562, now I thought this was rather alot until I phoned other insurance places. This covers our hymer for £45,000 plus euro cover rac commercial plus 3000 personal effects awning gas bottles etc. I nearest i could get was £747.
I will keep trying as the prices other funsters are quoting are much cheaper, and we are not young and have no points on licence and no convictions, they told me its so high because its a large hymer, anybody else had quotes for hymers and if so what sort of price are they quoting you. thanks Lynne

Well we're just in the process of ringing around for quotes as changing from our 12 yr old Duetto to a 4 yr old Starfire.
This is what I've got so far;
existing insurers - Direct Line - £364
Comfort - £315
Caravan Guard - £335 with 2yrs NCD or £250 with 4yrs (max) mirrored NCD
Frank Pickles £207
Bit concerned about the above note from Madmaggott about how the mirrored thing works in case of a claim, that's a bit scary, need to clarify that with Caravan Guard.
Now going to call Pickles and see if there are any gaps in the policy that make it so much cheaper than others.

Seems bonkers to me. A £50000 Konitki is only £250 but you Hymer is more than double. You can understand it if its like a ferrari and a ford escort but they are both just big motorhomes worth about the same. What? Are Hymer owners having loads of crashes or leaving the keys in the ignition or something. Doesnt make any sense to me.

I went with Safe Guard as they do full year round EU insurance cover for 365 days a year and breakdown cover. What is the comfort deal is it the same as I paid about £350.

I would think like cars the cost of repairs and parts must be taken into account and Hymer must just cost more a claim than others

I contacted comfort for a quote on our Dethleffs T63 and the offer @ £196. Sureterm quoted £459 for identical terms.

Brand new van @ 40K, and we are first timers!

No mention about no claims discount...more interested in claims/ convictions.

The quality of customer service was truly A1 and how it should be in the UK.

The policy arrived next day and they even sent details direct to Salop leisure next day for registration...

Very pleased indeed!

Comfort do not cover whilst van is at a garage/dealer

FYI
Comfort policies do not cover the van whilst it is in the garage or workshop whilst undergoing work. You need to check with the garage/dealer that their insurance will cover your van whilst in their care.

This has been debated at length on 'another forum' as a member had his van stolen from a dealer and he wasn't covered.

I use Comfort, and am happy as only use known to me garages, but other newbies need to be aware of this clause.

Other insurance companies/underwriters also have this clause in their policies so well worth asking or checking.

I have been with Comfort since 2006 and am now covered for Full-timing with them.

The big problem I can see is if you breakdown and need to be recovered to an unknown repairer. This happened to us early this year in the Lakes.
We had to leave our home for a week in the repairers yard awaiting parts.

I admit to having not read all of the exclusions, as the one covering the above issue is not in the front of the policy booklet, where it details what you are covered for and in red what is not covered, but is in my booklet on page 42 under general exclusions, after all the blurb about RAC recovery etc.

I was unaware at the time that my motorHOME was not covered at all by my insurance as I had given the keys to someone else.

Garages, and other service/repairers, do not prominently display their insurance information or give details to customers about how much vehicles left with them are covered for and what exactly is, or is not covered.

I had a car stolen from a repairer while under repair, some years ago and my then insurance CIS, covered my vehicle while it was in the "custody or care of a member of the Motor Trade". If the garage had cover the liability insurance was shared between the insurers. I got my money with no problems from the CIS, once they were happy that the keys had not been left in the vehicle. I had my set and the repairer had the other set. As a result this issue had never crossed my mind.

I will now check that everything is covered, Vehicle, accesories and contents, or or stay with the vehicle.

John
