Hi

We are looking for a couple of nights away mid week ...would like a small campsite with coarse fishing lakes (not river fishing) and walking distance to nice pub/s. we live in Shrewsbury and dont want to travel further than an hour and a half.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Yes, there are a couple near Shrewsbury, one near Condover and one around Pontesbury area, When I'm back I will have a look in the C7CC book. There is a large one just out of Stafford, but that may be to far.

Thanks Nomadic.

Stafford would be fine..Condover a little too close to home though. I have been trawling the net for campsites with decent coarse fishing ( ha ha ) in Cotswolds, Malvern, Derbyshire, Hereford etc but most seem to be river fishing or too isolated with no pub.

Thought there may be some keen anglers on the forum with a few ideas :)

Wyreside in Lancashire has good lakes, camping facilities for a few only and a pub on site. Might be a little more than an hour and a half from you. It's about 10/15 mins from junction 33 on m6.

What do you want the pub for? You can't fish while at the pub but you can have a drink or two while on the bank.

Where else are you going to tell the stories about the ones which got away? :)

I rarely get to the stage of having fish getting away. Most of the time, the only thing that I get on my hooks are maggots :(

C&CC site at "Hereford", which is actually at Tarrington, mid way between said town and Ledbury. The site is built around Tarrington Millpond, a lovely 3 acre lake with big carp, huge perch (and gudgeon!), roach, rudd, bream, crucians the odd tench etc. The Tarrington Arms is supposed to be 1/3 mile away, but seems longer when I walk it! Super site, lovely people, great day ticket fishing.

Been getting away since 2008
I'll second the C&CC site at Tarrington, Hereford.
