Cleaning seating covers!!!!!! (1 Viewer)

Hoping for some advice on cleaning the seating and mattress covers in Bing, went in today and we found surface mould starting to appear in some areas. What is the best way to clean them?

You need to tackle this in old clothes that you can throw away afterwards, otherwise, you could bring the spores into the house.

Vacuum the loose stuff off and then chuck the vac bag (or carefully clean out the cylinder if it doesn't have a bag). Protect yourself too, you don't want to inhale any of the spores. Therefore, don't start brushing this stuff aggressively into the air.

You could then try gently cleaning the affected areas with diluted water/washing-up liquid. Just use the suds to start with. Don't soak the material though, it will be a sod to dry and mould loves a wet environment! Use a hair drier of fan to dry off - ensuring that you have got rid of the spores first.

Sunshine also kills the spores, but there isn't much chance of that at the moment!

You could also try sponging with a little white vinegar. Vinegar (being acidic) inhibits the growth of mould.

I'm not an expert on this, though that's what people do when they've had mould on furniture in storage.

This mould sounds multi-focal. The first thing to think of is to stop it getting a hold in the first place. You must have an awful lot of damp or damp air in the van. Ventilate the van to air it frequently or find other sources of the damp. Roll up the blinds and let some sunshine in when it shines. A couple of bowls of absorbent cat litter will help take damp out of the air.

Thanks, the van isn't damp and we have moisture traps already in it think that there must be dirt!!!! from previous owner. it is the first winter we we've had really....

We took the plunge and removed them and washed them with an antibacterial washing liquid (on delicates!!).
They look like new.

Bought a midi dehumidifier from Aldi for £35 too.
