Our route is not set in stone, and any advice is greatly welcomed.... Obviously we'll be checking weather etc. travelling is not an issue, we don't get a lot of long holidays so we make the most of it! Last year we did Devon & Cornwall and loved every minute,..

If i were you i would give France a miss at that time of year and take the ferry direct to Spain...not much difference in price. BUSBY.

If you both drive and are prepared for long driving days you can get across to Spain easily we got from Calais to Benicarlo in 3 nights, could have done it in 2. Same on way back we left left from Benicarlo and were in Calais 3 nights later. It's hard work but doable if you want the warmer weather, we were out for 3 months in total though travelling all over Europe in between, so was worth the quick start and finish, to make the most of the time in-between.
If we didn't have the dogs would probably go straight into Spain via ferry though. The tunnel is very easy though with dogs.

thank you for all the info.....think we're going to look at a few different routes. problem is, we'll never know exactly what weather is going to be like until a little closer to the time.....
i've stocked up on plenty of maps & aires books.....now just to find a campsite so we have somewhere to stop for christmas! any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.... would like to be in for Christmas Eve - Boxing Day !

Do take chains with you in case of snow in France. If you don't have the right equipment you'll be stopped by the police. They won't care about your driving skills, or wishes to go away. You'll have to wait till the snow has gone.
Mind you even with chains you could be stopped if they think you are dangerous for everyone else on the road.

Amicalement

Frankie:)
